I was at the Cruiserweight Classic tapings and he gave a short speech before he went over to the commentary booth. He said that at the time WWE approached him about it he didn't want anything to do with wrestling, which is understandable. Wrestling has been his entire life and he loves it so much that if he can't wrestle anymore he'd prefer not to be associated with WWE at all. Real sad, man.

Went to the tapings last night. A lot of good stuff. Finn/Shinsuke was a fun time. Excited to watch it back.

Went to the tapings last night. Few notes (without spoiling results)
-Bryan said when they called him about this tourney he didn't want anything to do with wrestling, but he knew it would be special so he agreed. He's had a lot to do with things like this even being possible in WWE, so to me it just sucks he couldn't actually compete with these guys in the ring.
-A few of these "cruiserweights" looked huge, like Tony Nese seemed every bit of 220lbs.
-Rich Swann is insanely over. Biggest crowd favorite of the show. His generic theme was really catchy and I hope they keep it.
-Some the lesser known guys will surprise you and should go on to become NXT regulars. Brian Kendrick's opponent was awesome and definitely deserves a developmental deal at the very least.
-The final match of the tapings (and likely final match that will air for the first round) was insane. Real special stuff that I can't wait to watch back on the network.
All in all it was a great show and I'm excited to see it again. Daniel Bryan and Mauro on commentary should be awesome.

Even if he loses, I can't see it seriously impacting his WWE character. The man is a once-in-a-lifetime talent and when he shows up, you know you're gonna witness some carnage. His mystique is independent of reality and can't really be damaged at this point. He got huge buyrates in UFC even though its fans have a disdain for wrestling, and he'll do huge numbers again even though his MMA record isn't very good.
Like, does anybody care (or even remember) that when he first came back to WWE he lost all the time to Cena and Triple H? Did that make his ending of the streak or squash of Cena for the title any less believable? In my eyes it did not. Whether he wins or loses he's still Brock Lesnar, and that's an attraction in and of itself.

I just went on the official NXT tickets site and you can still buy tickets for NXT tapings and/or live events up to July 30th. Don't panic yet guys.

There's no way to know if any of this is true. However, ever since her match against Bayley in Brooklyn I've had reservations about her getting injured. She's got a very slight frame and works harder and faster than most of the other women. Again, not calling her "injury prone" or saying this report is true. I just think her body type and the way she works could potentially shorten her career.

To me this is just a title, mostly influenced by main event being billed as "the end" of Joe/Balor.
They still have tapings scheduled into July so I don't see it abruptly ending after TakeOver.

Damn Dana looking cute as hell. Props to the RAW makeup lady. Now I'm questioning everything I thought was real.

Bought tickets for the finale. Still not 100% sure how it's going to work with the 4 dates being so spread out, but I can't see this being bad with the guys they brought on board so far. I wanted to get the package deal for all 4 dates but the scalping/bot situation is ing unreal. Gone in seconds.

Cody Rhodes has been with the company for ten years and has held the intercontinental and tag titles. He's also been the lowest form of jobber for basically a year-plus now. Not sure if the whole Internet would explode were he to be released, but Cody Rhodes Diva would have an interesting reaction.
Just sayin'..

I want this to happen so I can see more of my bae Evie. She's just adorable. And not a terrible wrestler either.

Right now even casual fans engage with the product using the Internet, and as fans we currently have access to both wrestling and superstars at an astounding level. The line between what is real and "fake" is almost nonexistent in some cases.
Take Daniel Bryan, for example. We all recognized that Bryan Danielson, the real human being, was talented, so we supported his character even though he wasn't getting support backstage. Eventually the theme of him being "held down" by the powers that be, something that really happened offscreen, bled into his onscreen persona. At that point Bryan Danielson is basically Daniel Bryan. We want Daniel Bryan to succeed because we all know Bryan Danielson's story and think he deserves it. There's his onscreen and offscreen motivation for wanting to be champion right there.
Back to Sami Zayn. Almost all of the people who cheer for him know his offscreen backstory. We know he used to be El Generico, so we chant ¡Olé! during his matches. We also know that Rami Sebei, the performer, has been an amazing wrestler for over a decade and deserves to be successful in the WWE. Just because he's been repackaged since coming to a new company does not mean we wipe his slate clean or that he should have to "prove himself" to us. His gimmick is that he is a great wrestler who used to wrestle under a mask and got great fan support, but deep down his fans never thought he'd get a shot at the WWE because he's not what Vince traditionally would look for. Against all odds he made it here, after 14 years, and now he's got a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove his ability to the world. When he delivers a promo it seems genuine and sincere, and since we know his backstory it's hard not to root for the guy. Boom. That's a character, and it's way more three-dimensional and fleshed out than "a wrestling clown" or "a wrestling lunatic." Because it's real. It has real history and as fans we have a real stake in this guy because we've known the character for ten plus years.
In summation, the internet and existing media will build narratives and backstories for these guys long before they get to WWE, so they no longer need "gimmicks" the way they used to. Look at some of the future NXT stars and why we are expected to (and very much do) care for their onscreen characters
-American Alpha (both fell short of success in real life) -Bayley (wanted to be a wrestler in real life, all her offscreen friends moved up before her.) -Shinsuke Nakamura (he's Shinsuke Nakamura...exactly as he was in NJPW and because of the internet we all are already familiar with his persona.)

...a non-televised live event. Where they do Halloween contest battle royals and have Finn Balor come out dressed as Sami Zayn because it won't get attention. That's awesome for the 3,000 people in attendance. The rest of us haven't seen him win a match with it.
I'm aware he was teasing it before he got hurt. Sami Zayn has also teased the turnbuckle brainbuster a handful of times, and I don't expect that to ever make an appearance. It's a bit of fan service because the audience is in-the-know. I just wanna see him win a televised match with it at some point, alright WF?

Hideo Itami without the GTS/Busaiku is just lame, especially since CM Punk and Bryan stole them from him. And there's even a handful of guys doing the KENTA combo. Poor guy had his whole moveset robbed before he even got his shot.

Kudos to you man. I don't think I could do such a thing without being cynical or angry about today's product.
"Okay, see these two? They're called The Authority. They exist to make sure nothing fun ever happens and to emasculate and insult you the viewer and all the onscreen talent as well. They always win, always. And even when they lose they come back a week later. It's been like this for years."
I would end up just telling my friend to watch NXT or Lucha Underground.

If you...
-Spit your gum out and hit it mid-air like Mr. Perfect instead of throwing it out -Apply shampoo/conditioner by doing the Dolph Ziggler entrance poses -Flip your hood back (and/or do the poses) like AJ Styles whenever you're wearing a jacket -Instinctively do The Rock's "if ya smell" gesture when you smell something good -Do the Vince walk when your swag is on 100 thousand trillion

I wanna see a Foxcatcher dynamic with Kurt Angle playing the Steve Carell role. He's already totally insane so it's perfect. Gable doesn't trust him but he brings them opportunities and success so JJ tolerates him...until he goes too far.
Too bad he'll never pass a medical exam. This could be cool.

This would have been awesome like 15 years ago. Now it just makes me question if I don't find them funny because I'm older or if they were never actually funny in the first place.

How long has Paige's moveset been condensed to only include strikes that require her to lazily and obviously slap her thigh to make a noise? She's been in throwaway Total Divas shill segments for months so I haven't been paying close attention, but that match was jarring to watch.
