Conviction: Nog getting TKO'ed was eventual one day, but to Frank Mir? A submission specialist? That's the most shocking part to me anyway. But congrats to Mir. He is right back on form. He made history by stopping a guy who's never been stopped before. How can you call it eventual? He walked into the fight 31-4-1. He'd only lost decisions, and those were to Fedor Emelianenko, Dan Henderson, and Josh Barnett. To tell me it was eventual, I don't know. My point was this isn't the guy we used to see and I totally saw this coming soon. If not Frank, Brock. If not Brock, Randy.

haha where is Mr. Old School? I got 3-4 not bad. I never saw Mir TKO'ing Nog. But it just proves that he is back to old form. I will eat my words on that one...but I just hope that everyone who said that RAMPAGE WOULD GET DESTROYED WILL EAT THEIR WORDS AL WELL... I'm right here. I'm not hard to find. And yes, I'll eat my words. I've got no problem with that at all. Rampage definitely earned it by putting Wanderlei to sleep. I can't or won't deny it. It was Rampage's night. I was watching it at Boston Pizza and when Wanderlei dropped, so did my jaw. I just sat there literally stunned. I couldn't believe it. Mad props go out to Rampage for beating Wanderlei and congrats go out to Frank Mir for defeating Nogueira and congrats to "Sugar" Rashad for defeating Forrest and becoming the new Light-Heavyweight champion. Great PPV to close out 2008. Here's to many great fights scheduled for 2009.

Nobody can take those kind of shots their whole career and never be TKO'ed. Nobody. And with age, the abitlity to take those shots on a consistent basis declines. I think Mir even pointed that out recently (that you could see him moving slower than 5 years ago, implying that those battles were starting to take their toll). You could see a decline in his chin in his recent fights too. He'd been knocked down and almost out in his 4 most recent fights(Barnett x2, Timbo, Heath badly). I'm aware that's what he does and then he almost always finds a way to win. But one day it catches up to you. I'm a HUGE Nog fan, but I had to admit that a TKO loss was coming. Just not to Mir.

I have to admit it. Going into tonight I picked Rashad, Rampage, and Nogs.
Evans vs. Griffin = After the first two rounds I started to doubt my pick but Rashad looked really good with that ground and pound. Quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters
Rampage vs. Silva = Starting to worry about Silva, 3rd KO in 5 fights. But he did get KO'd by Cro Cop, Henderson, and Rampage. No slouches in that group.
Mir vs. Nog = What a shock. Watching it I was so surprised. I thought it would be a ground war as I didn't think much of either mans stand up. Credit to Mir's camp and him for a great game plan and Mir dedicating himself to be ingreat conditioning. Looking back at it now it shouldn't be that big of a surprise. Nog has not looked good in his last two UFC fights. Both Herring and Sylvia should have KO'd him. The guy is still a stud though.
On a side note........ Mir just got too full of himself. Yes he fought a great fight and dominated a great fighter, but I am sure he pissed Lesnar off in the post fight interview. And you know Lesnar already wanted a rematch with Mir.

I've been saying for ages and ages that we'd be having Brock/Mir II at UFC 100, and now I think that's exactly what shall come to pass.
Much love for Mir, regardless of what anyone else says. Sadness for Wandy, too, since it looks like he's on the decline despite his manhandling of Jardine. Same for Nog...hopefully both of them rebound because it's always a joy to watch them fight.
Rampage/Evans sounds fantastic on paper, but something about Rampage getting a title shot after winning one fight post-breakdown irks me. I say it's put up or shut up time for Lyoto Machida, honestly. If he wins his next, I'd prefer Machida/Evans before Evans/Rampage.
Evans/Machida would be money: both are undefeated, there's a contrast of styles, etc.
And finally, Kongo made a DEFINITIVE statement that he should be next in like for the HW strap. He's been on an absolute tear.
Overall, I really liked this PPV. This definitely ranks up there as a possible PPVOTY.

I wanted to jump off the roof of a very high building last night. Wand KO'ed by Rampage? Nog stopped... by MIR!? Rashad LHW champ? Where the did I enter this alternate reality and how the hell do I get out.

Those last few punches by Rampage was uncalled for, but congrats to him for winning.

I'm a huge Wandy fan, but I'll be damned if I turn my nose up at Rampage winning the way he did. Silva is a ton of fun to watch and, as I really got into MMA, he was one of my favorites to watch. Still, his style is incredibly reckless and puts him at risk a lot of the time. Rampage hits like a freakin' Mack Truck, and showed practically the same fierce counter punching that he used to drop Liddell.
I'm very happy for Rampage. I was worried for his career/life when he went on the crazy spree. He could have easily gotten severely out of shape and pulled a Paulo Filho with this fight. Instead he looked sharp and got a HUGE victory (both as a fighter, and possibly more importantly, as a person).
Not sure what the word is on who gets Evans first, but it seems all eyes are on Rampage. In reality, Machida or Thiago should be next but I'm sure Dana finds Rampage to be more appealing as a champion. Honestly, I don't know if many hard headed fans would want to see Machida/Evans for the belt, assuming he can beat Thiago first.
I feel bad for Wandy, as he's kind of going down a low path right now. I'd assume he's either going to get a crack at Forrest, or they're just going to jump to a Wandy/Liddell 2 to see where both slumping fighters stand.
I'm shocked at Mir/Nog. Not so much that Mir won, but that he completely dominated on his way to doing so. It's sad to see all these Pride guys come into the UFC and looking as if they're burnt out as fighters.
Hats off to Mir though. I find him annoying as a guy, but it's good to see him start living up to what many thought he could be. On top of that, he earned this victory. After seeing him get highly criticized for beating Brock as if it was a fluke, it's amazing to see him decimate a more highly decorated HW.

The ref had his arms around Rampage trying to get him off and Rampage still threw at least two blows. I'm not taking anything away from the man, though. - SouthPaw

How I saw it -I rated Mus so Kongo got a good win, but who exactly has he beat? Last threee fights are a loss to Heath & then beating Mus & Everson. Hardly a top contender makes, but then who else is there? -Wandy vs. Rampage was for me a stunner, I thought with Rampage's recent mental issues & his two devastating KO losses to Wandy he'd be tentative but none of it. Great looking KO & fair play to him. -Mir vs. Nog. I actually called Mir to win this in the "no editing" thread but I didn't think he'd win like this! Quality showing by Frank who is certainly on a tear right now. -I've been a big critic of Rashad especially at startt of career as just a wrestler but he's looking good. Scored several big KO's now & looks comfortable standing up, still undefeated & he's the champion so fair play to him, although I was gutted for Griffin.
Overall a great event & set up Rashad/ Rampage & Mir/Lesnar 2 as two big drawing PPV headliners in 2009

Most likely. Does that take away anything from the fight? Not really. Since it was the heat of the moment and it was the end (most likely) to a rivalry, most people won't have a problem with "letting it go" even if the ref was clearly trying to stop Rampage. He may have gotten a little excessive, but it's not like he shoved the ref away and continued to hammer Wandy. It's difficult to draw the line with that type of stuff, but for now I don't see it coming back to haunt Rampage the way it did someone like Babalu. It didn't exactly hurt Penn when he held on to the RNC on Pulver for just a bit too long either, so I doubt this'll blow back into Rampage's face.

It wouldnt have been Rampages fault if the ref didn't stop it, but if you look at the video the ref grabbed him, was pulling him off Wandy and he was still throwing shots. Complete bullshit.
I hate how Babalu holds onto a choke and gets booted out of the UFC and looses 50k, and Rampage can throw a couple cheap shots and nothing happens. I know Babalu's was a lot worse, but still, doesnt seem fair that there isnt any repercussions.
Mir's game plan was perfect, and looked very impressive. You dont see a blackbelt wanting the fight to stay standing very often. Rampage besides the cheap shots, looked good. Wandy didnt look bad either though, they both stood trading shots and Wandy got caught, thats it really. I really hope he doesnt retire after this loss.
Props to Rashad for becoming the new champ!

No disrespect to Rashard......but I did not see this coming. Perhaps, Forrest's mind was off. Shame really.
Mir did exactly what I said he would.....win and win convincingly. Mir vs. Lesnar......time to put the steroid baby out!
