I never thought he was ducking Weidman for a second. I just believe he had to sit down with his coaches and training team and figure out which fight was best for him to take next. I mean, so many people were talking about the possible dream fights with GSP and Bones Jones.
I'm glad he's defending his belt again and I expect another dominating performance.

I stand by my statement that Weidman will be the guy to defeat Silva. I think the guy is a much better version of Chael Sonnen, better wrestling, better sub d and better ground and pound. If Silva wins this there is literally nothing interesting left for him at MW and its time for some superfights. Really pumped for this one.

I stand by my statement that Weidman will be the guy to defeat Silva. ...I don't know - a lot of people were saying that about Okami and Sonnen too. Silva just seems in another class.

The Mark Munoz fight was a huge win, bit by the time the Silva fight happens, it would be a year that Weidman has fought and he's had multiple injuries since then.

Well, GSP seems in no doubt about who's going to win...
- UFC President Dana White still insists Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva is going to happen. It's a dubious claim by now, though if the long-debated superfight ever does come to fruition, at that point it may not be so super. Or, at least it won't be if St-Pierre's prediction proves true.
That's because the UFC welterweight champion firmly believes the undefeated Chris Weidman -- currently listed as a 2-to-1 underdog -- won't just stun the world, he'll also do so in dramatic fashion.
"I believe [Weidman] is going to beat Anderson Silva," St-Pierre declared to Canada's Sportsnet. "I believe it's a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It's very bad.
"Not only is he going to beat, I believe he is going to finish Anderson Silva. I believe it's not going to be too long, that fight. This, people will be shocked."
The 37-year-old Silva hasn't truly lost in nine years, a stretch of time that spans 20 fights. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old has racked up an impressive 9-0 record since turning pro four years ago.

Unless Silva breaks 2 ribs this time out, I have no reason to pick against him. I think people take the first Chael fight too much to heart and think it's a true display of Silva's wrestling ability.
"Put him on his back and rain down punches"
Because that worked so well for Henderson, Lutter, and Chael.
"But both Dan and Travis held him down almost the whole first round...."
And both were finished by the end of the second.
"But Travis had him in the mount...."
And Silva quickly reversed out of it.
If anything has reinforced my idea of how dominate Silva is, it would be the "Like Water" documentary. In one scene, you see Silva working delicately on maintaining wrist control when on his back, and how to distract from that in order to complete the triangle submission.
5th Round. Less than a minute to go.
Silva, as he has done all night, goes to grab for Chael's wrists. And Chael makes pretty much the only mistake of the night, which was leaning up, giving Silva some distance. So with one wrist held, he snaps a quick punch right into Chael's mouth. Chael goes to block his face with his left hand and with his right wrist already locked up, Silva easily slips his leg over and gets the Triangle.
In the same scene, you see Silva practicing the "counter" to the Triangle, and how to maintain control. And whats the first thing Chael does come round 5, less than a minute to go? Attempts the same counter, only to tap out a few seconds later.
Any given Sunday, or Saturday or whatnot. But Silva's a killer.

Silva has been my favorite fighter since I got into MMA and I have to say, even I'm worried about this match up. Granted I got worried when he faced Bonnar just because of the "What if?" scenario. However, I think Weidman just has the pontential to finally finish Anderson if he gets him down. But hopefully the rust on Weidman and the injuries will help Silva get the win so he can move on to the superfights we all want to see!

I wish we didn't have to wait so long for this fight. I was hoping it was the next show. I don't follow mma that much however this fight has me intrigued.

Sean, to be fair about Silva reversing out of Lutter's mount, he didn't, really. Travis went for a really sloppy armbar and slipped, that's when Anderson wound up on top.
Either way, I think Anderson smashes Weidman.
Love the Spider. Looking forward to it.

Weidman is going to get embarrassed. I no longer buy in to hype.
GSP dominated Nick and will Hendricks. Anderson will destroy Weidman Jones will tool Chael.

James, what's your thought on Edgar vs Olivera? I've not heard much of him, Edgar gonna steam roll him?

Oliviera is a tough young kid with killer BJJ and good all around skills. I do think Edgar has advantages and expect him to win based on the level of competition he's fought.

3 great additions to the card.
I really, really enjoy watching Oliviera fight. One of my favorites.
James, I've never asked, what's the backstory to your sig?

edgar should win the fight, but oliveira is no slouch. his 3 losses are jim miller, cerrone and swanson, all top 10 in their respective weight class. and every fight in his career except one about 4 years ago, were finishes... itll be an awesome fight.
i can only assume... whoever wins most explosively between lamas/zombie and cub/siver, is gonna be next in line after pettis.

I think we will finally see Silva go down...Weidman wants this bad and what better way to do it than by taking out the guy that is supposedly untouchable Personally I think if the superfight ever happens GSP will take Silva out as well

Anderson Silva (c) Vs Chris Weidman - First Round TKO
Frank Edgar Vs Charles Oliveira - Unanimous Decision
Tim Kennedy Vs Roger Gracie - First Round KO
Cub Swanson Vs Dennis Siver - Unanimous Decision
Mark Munoz Vs Tim Boetsch - Split Decision
The Weidman hype train is running extremely strong and it's believable too. Weidman has a chance to dethrone Silva, but I still can't pick against Anderson. The guy is still hungry and to the surprise of his haters - he's humble. Sure, Chris is the "young gun", but Anderson knows this and I bet he's training twice as hard as usual, if that's even possible. I see Anderson winning in impressive fashion and I think Weidman might be too aggressive in trying to take it to the champ; which will ultimately be his undoing.
