hah... my generation as a young kid in the 70's: -NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, and some local UHF channels. No cable, no FOX or WB. -Only one late night show, the Tonight's Show with Johnny Carson. -VCR? What's that? We were stuck watching what was on and that was that. -Color TV? Man we couldn't afford such a luxury yet. The 19" Black and White TV was so groovy! -Oh and remote control, my dad had one of those, it was called Jay. Yes me. "GET UP AND CHANGE THE CHANNEL JAY!" "GET UP AND RAISE THE VOLUME JAY" Heck and I didn't even require batteries! -Oh Car air conditioning? Another luxury my parents couldn't afford at the time. Auto Windows in a car? I think only Cadillac had those fancy things as an option. -Records, 8 track tapes... 'nuff said! -Computers? Sure maybe if you consider the $400 'pocket' calculator a computer. Although they did go down in price in the mid to late 70's. It was cool to make our fancy computer... er rather calculator say "SHELL OIL" or "HELLO" with numbers and turning it upside down. -Cell Phones? Smart Phones? It was cool once they went from Rotary Dial to Touch Tone Dial! That was a smart phone to us... until the cord stretch out too much and was one long floppy thing. -Microwave Ovens? They just came out and were large and heavy and very expensive. No way could we have one of those pricy things. -Video Games? They were lines and squares! Sure that was fun, but it was more fun to go to this place that is widely unknown now a days... called "Outside". Man I could go on and on! [/thread]

This.
Pokemon was so big when I was a youngin'. You'd constantly see kids crying on the playground when they regretted trading their Pokemon cards!

My favourite was Machamp, I'd been after him for ages, I couldn't believe when I opened a packet and he was in there. Good times.

I have no idea what happened to it .

This one's always a biggie to me:
Walking into a grocery store and buying a comic book off the magazine rack. I was 8 or 9 years old before I stepped into a proper comic shop. This was how I got into the wonderful world of comics and honestly the only reason I read as a kid.
Comic shops are great and all, but so many towns have none. Digital may one day at least get young readers into comics again, but nothing beats the tactile feel of a book in hand, nor the pride that comes from having a little stack in your closet and sharing them with friends.
Now that I mention it, that's how I feel about any physical collection. It's why I own a hard copy of every piece of music on my IPod.

Does anyone have Family Video in their area? When Blockbuster and Hollywood Video were around, it was the shitty rental place that no one wanted to go to but now they are thriving. They've opened dozens of stores in Missouri alone since Blockbuster went under.

I remembering watching a doc on one of those guys, a Mormon Family Video rental place, a while back...interesting stuff. I always thought they stayed out west, trippy to see these stores moving in other areas.

I feel like my generation (born in 88) was the last generation to grow up on hand drawn animated movies.
I could be wrong, and If I am please let me know.. But when I think back to one of the last things my generation truly experienced, Disney animation comes to mind.. CGI slowly crept in after Toy Story into the late 90's.. But hand drawn animation was all but dead before I entered high school.
