I'm about 9 months into collecting now and the Real Sounds Arena was one of the first things I purchased. I had a field day experimenting which TTL figures were compatible, I really think Jakks were ahead of their time with the sheer variety of phrases and compatible figures. However I do have to agree that their marketing images seemed to have been very misleading especially the steel cage as mentioned above.

I still wake up in a cold sweat with how many times I've been swindled by Jakks. That "Hell in the Cage" thing was basically illegal.

Ever felt cheated by JAKKS? LOL that's like asking "Have you ever go wet in the rain?"

Ahhh I remember being so disappointed with Chaos in The Cell. But I started just leaving one side of the cage off and laying it across the top. I had to leave one side off anyways to make easier to play inside the cage, so it worked out.
Plus it fit better than the first cage that my brother and I had from Jakks.
Wow, looking at this thread, it seems Chaos In The Cell burned a lot of us.

RA 25 Shawn Michaels royally p'd me off. I was so looking forward to this: Which then became this: Safe to say I passed, but hated that he wasn't made like that. I never did like when they changed all HBK's to the non-accurate tracksuit leg mold. So we never got him in the correct pants mold like in the first photo. A lot of things went on like this. Half painting figures was a staple of figures being released in 2004. Christian in normal clothes had no pattern on his back, Billy Gunn (his only ever RA) had no lips on his shorts on the back, Ultimo Dragon had no dragon skin effect on the back of his tights... Even Trevor Murdoch released in Arenaline 21(?) had a plaid shirt, that was left plain white on the back. That was in 2006, so they still did it every now and then. Those are the exact figures I described in my earlier post. The proto you shown was on the Sam's Club playset box and inside was that other one with the inaccurate halfway done pants, ugly head, and I'm pretty sure it had unpainted molded wristbands aswell.

The closest we got to that figure was a HBK from 2 Treacherous Trios sets: But again, he was missing details such as the silver studs on the Xs and the fact he was in the stupid tracksuit mold, instead of the accurate pants mold. That would have been perfect! It even had a belt! Seriously don't get why Jakks did that to this, and every subsequent HBK figure. This also reminds me of another similar story: I was really looking forward to getting this set, because I wanted a new, more accurate RA Undertaker, and Edge was in a really cool attire. And instead we got this gem: I got it for Xmas that year and was thoroughly disappointed. So instead of a brand new headscan for Undertaker (which was never ever seen again), we got the same old tired one. His boots were supposed to be tall laced, but he came with the usual inaccurate tall kickers. His tights logos were supposed to be golden, but were flat orange. Now Edge was the worst. Not only did the stupid slappy hand instead of the fist annoy me, his attire was vastly different. He had no black/grey/white camo on his tights! BS from Jakks. Also, the logos on his boots were tiny, and the logos on the side of his tights were red, and not the white like on the crotch. And finally he should have had a red stripe going down the back of the boots, but nope.

By not getting a Gail Kim, Jazz, Better Jacqueline, Joy Giovanni or Sable in the 2001-2005 era's.
Also no Apollo Creed's wife in the Rocky Series.

Yes.
Every single times those pricks refused to include elbow and/or knee pads. Also, when they downright refused to paint the back of figures.
Mattel still makes the same elbow and knee pad mistakes as Jakks though, tbh.

Didn't that come down to like, the Chicago Cubs bitching about what looked very much like their logo being used in the figure? I am probably very, very wrong but I could have sworn the Cubbies got pissed about something Punk related with Jakks.

That was part of the reason, but looking at the rest of the last waves, they were just trying and hoping for reasons to cheap out on paint. Take a look at Matt Hardy from the same time period: Remember the time Matt wore flat black tights with plain silver logos? Jakks nailed that look!

Back in January or February of 2001, I was 8 years old and remember seeing the image of the SmackDown Real Sounds Arena on the back of the box of one of my new figures. I thought it looked so damn cool and I really wanted to have it! I asked my mum if I could possibly get it for my birthday and she said she would think about it and then soon enough agreed to get it for me. I was ecstatic, the thing looked awesome! The turnbuckles looked very much like the real thing you saw on TV, the turnbuckles themselves, the pads and the middle parts that connected the two were all spot on, the ring looked a decent size, it had the corner steel steps and there was an outside ring mat that was also a good size. Damn was I excited to finally get it for my figures! A couple of days before my birthday I went with my mum into town to the figure shop to pick it up, it looked awesome and I was really looking forward to opening it on my birthday. March 28, 2001 and now 9 years old, I got up during the night because I couldn't wait any longer and had to see thing! I opened the box up and after a few moments my excitement turned to deflation. The real product was vastly different to the picture on the box. The turnbuckles were not the same and weren't anywhere near as realistic. The ring was smaller. It had 2 visible sensors on it for the electronic aspects of it which weren't visible ANYWHERE on the pictures of it. There were no corner 2 part ring steps but instead a single piece with 3 steps that clicked onto the middle of the apron on the side of the ring. And the mat on the outside was also smaller and unrealistic looking in comparison to the proto. I felt so ing cheated! Talk about false advertising. I remember fetching my Scotty 2 Hotty figure from my room to compare the size of him to the ring, I laid the figure down on the ring and it took up over half the ring! I was pretty pissed off at the figure makers, I ended up just going back to bed after that on a complete downer. That day I went to school and had time to absorb it and was in a much better mood as the day went on. Once I got home and set the arena up I was feeling much better about the situation. I hadn't let on to my mum that I was annoyed because I didn't want to seem ungrateful after she had paid £50 for the thing. I got accustomed to it that day and actually ended up really enjoying playing with it. The sounds, music and commentary as you played matches with your figures on it were very cool. It was a lot like the Titantron: you put your figure's foot on the steps and JR & King would say something about that superstar. It would react to you hitting the mat, the turnbuckles, leaving the ring, hitting the ropes and pinfalls etc, I thought that was awesome and got a lot of enjoyment out of it that year. But I would very much like to say, you Jakks for almost ruining my 9th birthday. You cheap, false advertising, lying, thieving c*nts! Any similar stories? I bought the same ring (it got re released in around 2006-7 i think) it was such a crappy ring, I packed it 5 minutes later and took it back to the store and got a Shawn Micheals and Rocky Balboa figure instead, really happy that i returned that crappy ring.

Well, I bought from Jakks.
So yeah, I'd say I've felt cheated based on that fact alone.

I think the Cubs thing was just a rumor (not that I'd be surprised given the attire's purpose). Jakks released the UF statue with the same attire. I own it, and it's awesome:

Jakes wasn't all bad. I remember getting a ring, announcers table, monitors, chairs, JR, and the King in one box set.
If anything, some of their themed box sets in the TTL days are some of the more original ways to rerelease a figure with a new outfit that you'd actually want to buy.
Versus three somewhat random people packaged at Kmart and six person box sets of figures typically widely released otherwise.

Felt cheated by collecting every single non-duplicate of Build and Brawler(Jakks Deluxe GI Joe size figure) and constantly feeling kinda cheated when they'd switch body sizes from Protos to Final Products, and they ended up putting Batista size bodies on CM Punk and Jeff Hardy.
Oh, and highly anticipating the final two sets of Jakks lifespan, which held such figures like Evan Bourne, R-Truth, updated Orton's and Jeff Hardy, Eddie Guerrero, then the Protos came out and they were sets of 4 of re-releases.
