Superstars of Wrestling May 9th, 1987 Hosts: Vince McMahon, Jesse Ventura, and Bruno Sammartino
At the beginning of Superstars, Vince talks about how Ricky Steamboat nearly suffered a neck injury and doctor's gave him the clearance to wrestle. Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) def. Tiger Chung Lee via pinfall with a flying crossbody from the top 2 minutes in to retain the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship. A squash match for the champion. As Ricky starts to celebrate, Randy Savage suddenly rushes out and jumps in the ring and attacks Ricky from behind! The referee tries to stop him, Vince and Bruno are disgusted by Savage's brutal attack and Ventura is loving it. Savage leaves after a few WWF officials rush out and Savage laughs it off taking his time to leave the ring with Ricky laid to waste in the middle of the ring. Results: Davey Boy Smith def. Superstars of Wrestling May 30th, 1987 Hosts: Vince McMahon, Bruno Sammartino and Jesse Ventura Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) def. Dusty Wolfe via pinfall for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship. Ricky works on the arm early on, Wolfe retaliates and starts to work on Ricky's arm. Steamboat lands a few punches and gets in a big slam to win with the flying chop and pin (3:42). After the match, Randy Savage walks out taunting Steamboat. From behind Wolfe who was defeated attacks Ricky, Savage runs in and beats on Wolfe tossing him to the outside like he was trash and says "he's mine!". Savage assaults Ricky continuously till Steamboat finally pushes Savage back and it's an all out brawl! WWF Officials finally break them up. Bruno is disgusted with Randy Savage and feels like he's had enough of him and should go back to the ring one last time to teach Savage a lesson. Results:The Islanders def. The Can Am Connection

Superstars of Wrestling June 13th, 1987 Hosts: Vince McMahon, Bruno Sammartino, Jesse VenturaRicky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. The Honky Tonk Man (w/Hart) for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight ChampionshipOriginally scheduled for a match against Butch Reed. Reed didn't show up so HTM replaced him. HTM gets in the offensive fast and even gets Steamboat to the outside. Steamboat retaliates and gets him in a headscissors for the take down over the ropes. Continuous chops, HTM counters an irish whip and starts eyerakes and chops back to Steamboat. Irish whip and HTM gets in a big knee kick, bodyslam, and elbow drop from the second rope for the pin to two. Randy Savage appears "cheering" for Ricky Steamboat. Jimmy Hart starts talking trash telling Savage he shouldn't be out here. Savage shoves Jimmy Hart away and is on the apron shouting "go Ricky!" HTM gets annoyed and confronts Savage. Savage knocks his teeth to the ground and tosses him back in for Steamboat to land a big shoulderblock from the ropes and gets back up for a big atomic drop for HTM to fall to the outside for the countout. Winner: Ricky Steamboat via countout to retain the WWF IC title.HTM gets in Randy's face for costing him the match, Ricky Steamboat jumps to the outside apron and jumps on both HTM and Randy! Steamboat fights Randy on the outside, it's chops and punches and Randy retaliates with a knee to the gut, it's an all out war till WWF officials break it apart. Savage: (backstage promo) Ooo ya the Macho Man has made it loud and clear no one can touch Ricky Steamboat ya, no one is allowed to beat him ya because I know that chump can be beaten ya but it has to be me! I want my title back! Jimmy Hart walks in. Hart: What you did was wrong you hear me wrong! I thought we were on the same side you know! Honky Tonk Man is furious! Randy: (grabs Hart) You don't know what being furious is! If Honky Tonk Man has got a problem with me then face me in the ring ya! Come on face me! Gorilla Monsoon (on commentary): What in the world is going on! I can't believe Randy Savage has issued out a challenge to the Honky Tonk Man! Wait just a minute we were having a match in progress ( Brad Rheingans vs. Terry Gibbs) he's coming out here! (Savage's music hits he walks out with Elizabeth). He can't do that! Savage throws out both competitors causing a No Contest for the match in progress. Savage gets on the mic:Savage: Hey Honky Tonk Man if you got the guts to face me then here I am I want my match now! Unless you're chicken. HTM with Hart walk out and get in the ring. HTM tries to talk to Randy out of a match. Savage asks the Referee to ring the bell and Gorilla is calling this unsanctioned by the WWF because this was never contracted for. The bell rings and Savage goes on the offensive against HTM. HTM pleads with Randy and runs out. He gets on the mic and tells Randy he's sorry and that he will never face Ricky Steamboat for the IC title. Savage: (on the mic) What did I tell ya ya! Ricky Steamboat I want my title match, I want it now! Come on! (Ricky doesn't show up and Savage snaps he starts trashing things on ringside and throws a chair around in anger). After the match an angry Ricky Steamboat walks out to a pop, Randy is looking furious as to why he's here. Ricky calls out Savage. Savage jumps over and Ricky grabs his title belt ready to attack Savage, only for Savage to use Liz as a human shield! Steamboat shouts and calls out Savage to be a man. Savage throws Liz at Steamboat and Steamboat carefully helps her to the side only for Savage to knock down the champ! Savage takes him in the ring and starts on the assault. Steamboat counters and gets him into a corner for several chops, irish whip to another corner as Steamboat runs for the corner only for Savage to jump out and run off to much heat. WWF at Madison Square Garden August 22nd, 1987 Televised on MSG Network Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon, Alfred Hayes and Pete DohertyRicky "the Dragon" Steamboat & George "the Animal" Steele vs. Macho Man Randy Savage & The Honky Tonk Man (w/Liz & Hart) in a Tag team match
Ricky and Randy kept interfering and beating each other down, breaking all the rules, that the referee had them separated from ringside and even taken to the back by WWF Officials. Steele got in a sleeperhold on HTM for the win 2:31 in. Winner: Ricky Steamboat & George Steele via pinfall
After the match in a post-match promo George Steele is in the back in tears and shouts "Ricky Ricky da da da" as Mean Gene tries to understand him and interprets it that he's upset about how it all went down between Ricky and Randy. Saturday Night's Main Event October 3rd, 1987 (Sept 23rd taping) Hershey, Penn. (on NBC) Hosts: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. Randy "Macho Man" Savage (w/Liz) for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship in a STEEL CAGE
The cage is up and outcomes Savage with Liz. Randy climbs the cage and poses. Steamboat makes his way out to a pop. Vince is talking about how this has to be the most anticipated match in history, a final showdown between Steamboat and Savage, while Ventura agrees and says he might have to stay silent to watch this one. Savage jumps Steamboat, Ricky strikes back with a few chops, irish whip and a big cross body as Ricky rams Savage to cage. Savage fights back, slamming Ricky to the cage and trying to rake his head over the cage. Ricky is cut open already, Vince is disgusted as how vicious Savage is. Savage pounds on Ricky, irish whip and a big high knee kick to the face. Savage gets Ricky to a corner and continuously stomps on him, climbing over him to get to the top. Ricky quickly climbs up to stop him. Ricky has the advantage, gets in a few holds, but Savage retaliates and a bloody Ricky falls to his knee. Savage bodyslams Steamboat and heads to the top rope. Instead he climbs to the very top and it looks like it's all over. Instead of climbing over Savage signals his finisher and fans are on their feet. Savage goes for the elbow drop finisher from the top of the cage and Ricky gets out of the way! Savage is hurt, Ricky goes for the cage door and almost makes it till Savage drags him back. Savage goes for another slam, but Ricky reverses it and slams him back. Ricky climbs the cage, Savage is back up and follows him. They strike each other at the top, Ricky lands three chops and Savage falls! Ricky climbs over for the big win! Winner: Ricky Steamboat via over the cage to retain the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight ChampionshipAfter the match, Steamboat celebrates with the fans. Results: Hulk Hogan (c) def. Sika

Ricky: I've faced the bloodiest battle of my life, when I felt my larynx crushed, when I got back on my feet, when I conquered the Macho Man, when he haunted me in my sleep day in and day out, the Dragon prevailed in the cage, a place no man should be. But that is history because I am taking on all comers, new or old, large or small, I have proven that I can beat the best. Gene: I don't doubt your ability...(suddenly Bobby Heenan and Hercules appear) Heenan: Hold on just a minute there, you still owe my man Hercules a title shot. The whole world knows he had you beat before... Ricky: You want a title shot you got it. Suddenly Hercules starts choking Ricky with his chain from behind! He drags his body over from the studio till finally officials get Hercules off of him. Ricky is choking as Heenan shouts "you talk about a broken larynx, ha Herculues is going to break you!"After the promo Gorilla Monsoon back in the Prime Time studio shakes his head in disgust. Gorilla: You got a lot of nerve doing that... Heenan: What? Gorilla: He accepted the challenge, I bet you put Hercules up for what he did back there. Heenan: Did what? The match was similar to their SNME confrontation, but this time Mr. Wonderful is at ringside and after a big crossbody pin by Ricky, Orndorff knocks him down costing him the match. Craig: Ricky I believe the challenge has been issued out to you by the Heenan family and after weeks of speculation, a lot of people want to know just who are you Survivor Series team partners? Ricky: You know I've thought long and hard, the fact is there are a lot of great stars to choose from, a lot of great competitors. But the truth is I haven't been able to choose them all. I know I got to find four fast, but I know I can trust two men with my life and I want to know if they're with me and that's Jake the Snake Roberts and Jim Duggan! (both men appear) Jake: Survivor Series ha, Ricky and I go way back, in all the snake pit matches in and around the world I've had with him, there is no one I would want leading a team than Ricky Steamboat and I'll be his general, ready and waiting because Bobby Heenan, you're a man of little substance weasel. Duggan: Haaaaaaa! USA USA! that's right Ricky Steamboat I will take charge, let me be part of your team and I'm ready for the Heenan family! Craig: But you're still short two men, and if you aren't able to find the two, you might have to forfeit the challenge! Bobby Heenan with his Heenan family team walk out. Survivor Series 1987 November 26th, 1987 Richfield Coliseum, Ohio Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c), Jake "the Snake" Roberts, Jim Duggan, Ultimate Warrior, and MYSTERY PARTNER VS. Hercules, King Kong Bundy, Paul Orndorff, Rick Rude, and King Harley Race (w/Heenan)
The heels are in the ring, the faces come out. Steamboat announces the fifth man and the mystery partner is revealed to be Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake who gets a pop as he gets to the ring. Steamboat goes first up against Hercules, a few holds after he tags in Jake Roberts. Rude gets in the tag and Jake pounds on him. Mr. Wonderful is in and fights off Jake who gets the tag on Duggan. Bundy gets the tag and squashes Duggan with the big splash for the pinfall win. Warrior rushes in starts attacking Bundy head on, managing to bring the big guy down and even getting in an impressive bodyslam. Warrior hits the big splash and Bundy is out. Ventura is impressed that Warrior can do that. Harley Race runs in and pounds on the Warrior. Warrior makes the tag to Beefcake and they go at it. Beefcake gets in the sleeper, but Race manages to tag in Hercules. Hercules works on Beefcake, but Beefcake gets the tag on Jake Roberts. Roberts is in till Hercules knocks him down and gets in the full nelson finisher for Roberts to pass out and the win. Steamboat runs in and goes on the offensive, but Hercules knocks him down. He makes the tag to Rude and they both double team him. Rude works on Steamboat's arm, makes a tag on Orndorff, but as Orndorff works on the arm, Steamboat manages to counter and get in a small package for the pinfall. Race jumps Steamboat, but Steamboat fights back with chops and manages to toss him to the outside. Steamboat goes for an insane crossbody from the top rope to the outside! A huge risk that costs him and Race the match. Warrior jumps in and goes after Hercules, both men fight it to the outside for the Double Countout. Beefcake is in and fights Rude, they go at it till Beefcake gets in the sleeper for the win. Winner: Ricky Steamboat's team with Beefcake as the last survivor.
In a post-match promo Heenan is fed up with his team and starts ranting about Steamboat, he says that Harley Race is the King and demands respect after what he did and Race says he will make Steamboat kneel. Results:Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Butch Reed, One Man Gang, and Ron Bass def. Hulk Hogan, Bam Bam Bigelow, Don Muraco, Ken Patera, and George Steele.

Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. King Harley Race (w/Heenan) in a NON-TITLE MATCHRace is on the offensive early on, Steamboat counters an irish whip and lands a huge chop with Race falling to the outside. Steamboat is on the outside landing several chops and tossing Race back in. Race counters with an eye rake and works Steamboat on a corner. Irish whip to another corner, Race goes for a clothesline, but Steamboat gets out of the way. Steamboat is on the offensive, Race falls hard as Steamboat goes for the top-rope crossbody to land it for the pin, but Race has his foot on the ropes. Steamboat continues the assault and lands a big bodyslam to attempt a second crossbody from the top rope. Landing his finisher Race's foot is on the rope for a second time. Steamboat is upset and starts stomping on Race's chest. Steamboat goes for a small package, but Race reverses it slightly for the pinfall. Amidst confusion as to who won the referee raises Race's hand. Winner: Harley Race via pinfall. Steamboat retains the IC title.
Race celebrates the win as Ricky Steamboat is in utter shock as to what happened. Race is in the back with Heenan with Mean Gene. Gene: I can't believe what we have seen you have gained a win over Ricky Steamboat. Heenan: Ricky Steamboat is a fluke! I told the world, he was the biggest fluke of a champion there ever is, even more than that good for nothing Hulk Hogan. Now you see it no controversial three counts, no controversy at all, and honestly you should've put that title on the line tonight and the King should be crowned the new Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion. Race: This has to be the greatest moment in my career, to beat you Ricky Steamboat is exactly what I needed and I pinned you clean, while you tried to take me down with everything you had and you couldn't do it! Saturday Night's Main Event January 2nd, 1988 (Dec 7 taping on NBC) Hosts: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura REMATCH: Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. King Harley Race (w/Heenan) for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight ChampionshipMatch is "in progress" Steamboat manages to get in a few chops early on, Race works the legs and Steamboat retaliates swinging Race to a corner for the ten punch. Steamboat tosses him to the outside and works on Race with a few chops. Heenan gets in Steamboat's way, till Race manages to get in a clothesline, tossing Steamboat back in. The match continues after a commercial break, Race has Steamboat in a headlock, Steamboat pushes Race to the ropes for a roll up and holding unto the tights for the pinfall win! Winner: Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat via pinfall to retain the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight ChampionshipRace rolls on out. Heenan goes balistic on the referee telling him that Ricky held unto the tights. Ricky grabs Heenan's hair and bashes his head to the turnbuckle five times as Ricky throws him to the outside and grabs a hold of his IC title and poses with it. Results: Strike Force (c) def. Gorilla: Folks what a USA special it's going to be on January 24th, the Royal Rumble will be taking place and already it's looking great Brain, we have the Intercontinental Heavyweight title on the line with your man Rick Rude taking on the reigning champion, Ricky Steamboat. Heenan: Even after Rude takes the gold away from you Steamboat, the King Harley Race wants another match. Royal Rumble USA Network Special January 24th, 1988 Hosts: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. Rick Rude for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship
The match goes as it did with the exception of Ricky Steamboat here being IC champion. Match ends with Rude pushing the referee in front of him as Ricky went for a cross-body from the top. Rude gets in a submission hold and although Ricky doesn't tap out, the referee calls the bell. Rude here grabs the IC title and walks out, but it's announced it's a DQ as Rude has used the referee. Winner: Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat via DQ and retains the WWF IC title.Rude is upset and gets back in the ring. After a commercial break, Rude and Ricky are fighting it out in the ring as the ref tries to get them to stop. King Harley Race runs out and smashes his sceptre over Ricky's head! Ricky is cut wide open and is left on the mat as Race and Rude celebrate as they leave. Results: Jim Duggan wins 20-Man Royal Rumble

The Main Event February 5th, 1988 Live on NBC, 8pm EST Hosts: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaRicky "the Dragon" Steamboat (c) vs. King Harley Race (w/Heenan) for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship
Ricky Steamboat is distracted by Heenan, as Race strikes him from behind. Steamboat reverses an irish whip and lands a big chop. Race counters and lands a few punches and a belly-to-belly suplex for the pin to two. Later in the match, Race gets a headlock in, Steamboat fights back with chops and gets in a sleeper hold, but Race gets out from the three count and gets Ricky to a corner for chops and a hard irish whip to a corner. Race goes for a big drop kick and misses, Ricky gets to the top rope for the flying crossbody, but Rick Rude runs out and drops Ricky from the top rope! Ricky is down, and Race lands a texas piledriver for the nearfall. Rude is frustrated on the outside till Race lands a diving headbutt from the second rope only to hang unto Ricky's legs on the outside for Race to get the pinfall victory! Winner: King Harley Race via pinfall to become the NEW WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion.
In a post-match promo, Steamboat is upset and doesn't believe he was screwed out of the title by Rick Rude. Race celebrates in the back with several heels, Savage is out and it looks like he's ready to shake his hands, but Race tells him to get out of his way. Savage grabs Race's hair and it's a fist fight between two heels! Results:Andre the Giant (w/Dibiase & Virgil) def. Hulk Hogan (c) via pinfall to become the NEW WWF World Heavyweight Champion
