The lack of any announcement of an extension beyond 2020 seems odd. But I also think Mattel will pull out all the stops to retain the license, since it's their only major action figure property. But the point about secondary market prices for older figures exploding is spot on. Money that used to go to new figures is going into the secondary market. And that can't be good for Mattel.
The current deal expires in 2021 not 2020 and the lack of any news on an extension might be because they haven't finalized a deal yet. It will be interesting to see if they do renew the contract, what the duration will be?! The last time the contract was renewed it was only for an additional 2 years (from 2019 to 2021) whereas the renewal before that was for 5 years. I suspect that WWE's licensing fee might be an issue as they are likely to increase it considerably due to the WWE line supposedly being the best selling action figure line last year. If they jack up the fee quite a bit then Mattel will need to increase prices to cover the added expense and I don't think retailers will be happy about that as they will need to increase their prices in return and in the past they have balked at raising prices.
For what its worth I'm out of the game once Mattels deal runs out. I quit collecting at the end of Jakks deal in 2009. A buddy of mine got back into it late last year and convinced me to start collecting again like we used to back in the BCA days. Since April I think I've spent over $4000 playing catch up with the Mattels and I really cant see myself starting up again with a new toy manufacturer which is going to happen at some point. Sadly since this is business after all the store exclusives are a neccessary evil. I just wish it were more organized.

Money that used to go to new figures is going into the secondary market. And that can't be good for Mattel. lol the sad part is Bill put his stamp of approval on this whole thing, "sometimes you have to pay to get what you want (on the sec. market)" I almost fell out of my chair when he said that...it proved to me they really don't give a crap about there base or the people who love this line. Paying 50$ on ebay for a exclusive does the consumer no good, or there company...period. Perfectly said

Marvel Legends are easier to find than Mattel WWE because more stores order them and they have better advertising with MCU films. Ok let's compare exclusives for a minute. I was able to buy the walgreens exclusive marvel legends mystique for $28 shipped on July 5th off of ebay. I could not find this figure in my area so maybe it sold out fast or none of the stores got it. Now compare that to the target exclusive liv morgan figure for a minute. Good luck getting that figure for anywhere near that price anywhere online. Now even with the price now finally falling to a somewhat realistic numbers with all the scalpers cannibalizing each other right now. Bottom line is this, this Chase figure concept needs to end or mattels license with wwe needs to end. There is a greater demand for that Liv Morgan figure. It is a first ever figure and just came out. Mystique has always been a shelfwarmer.

I ended up buying a Sherri for 40 bucks on ebay. That's about what she's going for on there. Ebay started charging tax to my state starting in Oct though so that was a bummer to find out lol

I still keep looking for Liv and Sonya to no avail. I have only found one Pete Dunne and that lame Wal-Mart Rock.

Both companies need each other I mean it’s like Wwe was the best selling toy line for a few years in a row....oh wait I have no idea why anyone thinks Wwe has a problem with how Mattel is handling the line.

Because money talks and other companies can show up to the table with a better deal, better distribution and marketing plan. I don't think they'll split with Mattel, but acting like it's not a possibility is silly. You have other companies like Jazzwares getting into the mix on a bigger scale, and if Hasbro loses their Marvel or Star Wars licenses, I could definitely see them making a big play.

Anyone else having difficulty buying Sonya or Liv from Target? Their regular elites aren't able to ring up and come up as not sellable.

I didn't want to requote 3 people from previous comments.
Mattel just lost the dc license to mcfarlane, so any can happen.

I think they put a lot more effort into the wwe line. I don’t think Mattel’s dc line was ever best selling action figure of the year like wwe was.

No one is interested in low end dc figures, that’s the issue. Why would you want mattel to lose the license? We have the best wrestling figures we’ve ever gotten, just because a $20 toy doesn’t meet everyone’s fantasy, doesn’t mean they are doing a bad job

Mattel is one of the biggest toy lines. Having their product in the same real. As Barbie and hotwheels is huge for wwe

That Alfred figure came out and I seen people. This is the Alfred we always wanted! Amazing figure!....I went to Walmart last night and they had 8 Alfreds on the peg, because people don’t want Batman’s butler.

We have the best wrestling figures we’ve ever gotten, just because a $20 toy doesn’t meet everyone’s fantasy, doesn’t mean they are doing a bad job I have never said mattels wwe figures where bad quality. In fact I have praised them many times for how good they are. The major issue I have has been the same issue I have always had, distribution. Now combine that with this Chase garbage and it has really put it over the top for me. I want something better and Hasbro seems to be the best option. I have reported many times how easy it has been to buy whole sets and exclusives of marvel legends over the last several months. Now combine all those things with the fact that mattel has been losing lots of money over the last few years. I think Hasbro is on more stable ground. There quality and most importantly availability are better than mattels. I really think its time for a change. People should not have to stalk stores or potentially get into fights with scalpers over these Chase figures. I should be able to just find a figure I want either in store or online with all the bullcrap hassle.
