Even as a 9 year old, Jack Tunney suspending Rude for calling Bossmans Mom names seemed far fetched, yet Heenan received no punishment.

His punishment was he had to take Rude's place in the matches with Boss Man. None of em were on TV but two did make it on SuperTape 4 and Mega Matches Coliseum Videos.

Ah I did not remember that. Still seemed a strange Kayfabe reason for Rude to be suspended though.
To me Rude was the ultimate heel from that era and I consider his departure to be the beginning of the end of the Golden Era. That's for me personally. Something didn't feel right about the Heenan Family without him in it.

But they probably had no other choice with Rude leaving abruptly they cooked something up quick to write em off.Heenan taking his place though was a nice add on to the feud.Him begging on TV saying stuff like how he's only a manager and how sorry he is was great tv.
And yeah when Rude left, The Family was on his last legs as all they had was Perfect, Haku and Barb.I still enjoyed em right to the end but yeah losing Rude was a crucial blow.

I agree that it must have been a quick decision in light of Rude leaving, but the suspension over comments to the Bossman’s mother has to be one of the most lamest things in wrestling.
Pity, not that I was ever a Bossman fan, but seemed the ideal platform to really push him as a top baby face after his turn earlier in the year. At that point, wins over Haku and the Barbarian were a given. Rude, and a convincing win over Perfect would have done him the world of good.
Thanks for the write up! I didn’t start watching until 92, so missed a lot of the build up to some of the earlier feuds.
Can you do Hogan v Bundy at some point as well Brain?

If I may request a feud how about Bret Hart vs Razor Ramon that started in late 92 and ended at Royal Rumble 93?

Bossman definitely should have gotten the IC title at WrestleMania but I think WWF figured the money was in heel Perfect being chased by the various faces like Tornado, Bossman, Bulldog, sort of like having Honkytonk as champion for so long. They would really need a face ready for the next level like Warrior or Bret and as good a hand as Bossman was he didn't really need the belt and he really wasn't in potential main event levels. He was more of the guy tagging with the main eventer.

I always thought Boss Man vs Barb from Rumble 91 was an underrated big man match.
The HUGE pop he got during that match made me think he was on the road to an IC Title run.

I think Bret Hart beating him at summerslam was perfect(no pun intended) I think that was the turning point of Bret's career. I actually forgot about Brutus and Tornado beating Perfect but I think the win meant much more for Bret than it did the other two. The other two were technical main eventers during their career already but with Bret it lit something inside of him that would continue for many years and of course he would become the biggest star among the three in wrestling history.

I loved Boss Man during this time. His match with Barbarian at the 91 Royal Rumble was a ton of fun and very underrated. Hit match with Mr Perfect at WrestleMania was a bit of a letdown. To have this long-running feud and for him not to come out on top at the very end was strange and made the whole thing end kind of flat for me. However, in looking back it was the right decision as having Bret being the one to topple Mr.Perfect made sense.

I would've had Boss Man win the belt at Mania and hold it until the following months SNME in which he would drop it back to Perfect.Have Mountie cost em the belt to officially get that feud going.
The Bret/Perfect SSlam classic would then go on as planned.

Bret Hart vs Jerry''The King'' Lawler
This feud would kick off at KOTR 93 after Bret would prevail in the grueling tourney to become King. Lawler would come out during Bret's coronation and attack em in a very well done segment.HUGE heat for Lawler here with Bet selling the attack to perfection.I liked the hints leading up to this event with King not being happy about the tourney itself as he thought he was only the true king in the WWF.
Things would get real heated over the Summer with Lawler not only verbally attacking Bret but also his family as well.Fantastic stuff here with Lawler coming off as a complete a**hole.
The build to their SSlam match was also well done with both guys giving great promos on their disdain for one another. His heel run in 97 aside, Bret was never strong in the promo department but man did he nail it here.Another case where you legit felt they hated each other.
The match at SSlam ended up being a bait and switch with Doink taking King's place after King proclaimed he was ''injured''. Heenan on commentary defending Lawler here was GOLD. The match with Bret/Doink is a great gem and IMO Doink's best match. We would get the match though afterwards between Bret and Lawler which was a good little brawl I thought.Bret would lose by DQ after not letting go of the sharpshooter. Loved this whole thing here with the refs/agents pleading with em to release the hold.
The feud would continue into the Fall with again both guys cutting great promos on each other.
We were going to get Lawler and his knights against Bret and his family at SSeries that year but Lalwer would run into legal issues with HBK replacing him in the match to put an end to the feud for the time being.
As far as the return to the feud in 95, I was nowhere near invested as I was just 2 years earlier. Lawler was still awesome in the heel role but when you bring feet kissing and dentist into the story it definitely will bring it down.Although I will say finish aside, I actually didn't mind Bret/Yankem from SSlam 95.
Overall...Without question my feud of the year in the WWF during 1993. Both guys NAILED it with everything clicking on all cylinders.Another feud I highly recommend.

I loved it when Lawler claimed he was injured at SummerSlam. You could tell he was lying but somehow told his story with conviction. And the Doink match wasn’t the worst I have seen. Loved the Knights as well although would have been so much better with the King, rather than Shawn Michaels. I remember the wondering of who the Knights were. I was never into Power Rangers, but their action figures made a good addition as the knights to my Hasbro fed (with a bit of imagination!)

Another great write up,
I was all in on Bret Hart in 1993 and was legit pissed what The King did at King of the Ring. By the way, I feel that Bret Hart's performance at the 1993 King of the Ring is one of the best in WWE history. he put on three good matches in one night and then had an amazing segment right at the end.
One thing I remember from SummerSlam was when The King nailed him with the crutch it looked so stiff. In Bret's book he talks about it and how he put the sharpshooter on The King extra tight as a result.
I would have been cool with this ending there to be honest. I have no recollection at all of what happened before Survivor Series 1993. I thought it was weird that Shawn Michaels had a team of Knights, but I never really thought anything of it. In hindsight that would have been the perfect way to ending this thing.
The 1995 return to this was not that great, but the two of them made the best of it they could. Apart from his matches with Diesel and Davey Boy, WWF really did Bret Hart wrong in 1995.

Looking back it was easy to tell the Blue Knight was Greg Valentine by just looking at his physique and how he wrestled.
