They also had the option of Taker/Jake against Sid/Mach but doing singles matches is the way better route.
Man how I wish the feud climaxed at Mania. It deserved to be on the big stage.

Never knew about Savage and jake having cage matches. Have any of these made it onto any DVD releases? I would love to check them out.

I wouldn't be surprised if handheld footage exists though but so far no lucking in finding any.We did get these classic promos however....

Savage vs Jake should have been loser leaves WWF at WM8. Some say that was the plan...Jake was to go backstage after WM8 sometime but relations between him & Vince broke down over it.
Vince had to scramble like CRAZY to change WM8 lads...& when you look at the programming its right there.

Though, Savage was in one of those a year prior, lost, and was still wrestling.

Bret Hart vs Steve Austin
Oh HELL YEAH!! when it comes to this feud. Not only my fav feud of this era but my fav feud of these two guys careers. I loved the beginning of this as you had Austin at IYH Mind Games call out Bret in classic Stone Cold fashion. ''If you put the letter S in front of the word Hitman, you have my exact thoughts of em'' Just gold stuff here with Austin as with this one promo you knew he was on the fact track to the top.The match at SSeries 96 was the first masterpiece between these two and man did they deliver in a BIG way.
Just an all around classic wrestling match with great phycology.Loved the WM VIII finish as well. The feud would continue into 97 but WM XIII was the pinnacle. The Submission match with Ken Shamrock as ref my God is timeless. The storytelling is off the charts here with both guys going all out with a very HOT Chicago crowd to boot. The shot of the bloody face of Austin will forever be an iconic image in wrestling history. The double turn was also well done with Bret getting great heet post match. Austin on the other hand looked like a mega star and rightfully so. I gotta side with MKSavage on this one, this match is definitely my fav Mania match of all time.
The feud would continue over the next month with Bret getting back into the heel role with ease with the reformation of the Hart Foundation.Austin would jump into the face role with ease as well. Must see TV each week that's for sure with these two.The IYH match the following month was still great despite the non decisive winner. The last time they were in the ring together (IYH Calgary Stampede) again was awesome stuff. Canada was on a FIRE for the climax here in the big 10 man tag and man was it a special sight.
Overall just an all time classic feud between two fantastic athletes.Seeing Austin finally getting his due with this feud was so great to see.The potential was always there and I was glad it got a chance to finally shine through here.Bret as well with the seamless transition to heel man just good stuff. If you think this feud is one of the all time best then give me an OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

This is my second favorite feud ever, after Savage/Jake feud of 1991/92. This was the only thing the the WWF had going for them at the time. All of their stuff, from their matches to their promos, was gold. Like The Brain said, I consider this to be the best match in WrestleMania history - I can't find one flaw in the whole match. I wish Bret didn't leave the WWF in 1997, I think it would have been great for Bret to put Austin over at WM14 for the WWF title. Two of the very best.

Two of the all time best and two of the greatest opponets in the history of wrestling. What is crazy is that this thing was over in like 9 months! These two were just pure gold together, the WWE should make a Hart vs Austin set like they did with Bret and Shawn.

Randy Savage vs Ultimate Warrior
My favorite Warrior feud of all time.I liked the way they got right into post SSlam 90.The Brother Love show with Sherri slapping Warrior 3 times with Warrior going nuts backstage trying to find the King was great.Poor Jim Brunzell lol
Things would heat up even more as the year ended with Savage getting more and more impatient in regards to getting a WWF Title match. As always his promos are intense and gold. The first on attack on SNME when Warrior fought DiBiase again well done. The match itself was also with Warrior blending well with the money man.The feud would finally reach it's boiling point at the Rumble when Warrior would scream ''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'' at Sherri in regards to giving Mach a title match. This would cost Warrior the belt later when Savage came out and hit em with the scepter to give Sarge the belt. GREAT stuff here. Only thing they should've did though was have Mach come out in the Rumble before Warrior would come out and chase him out.The stage was now set for the big showdown at WM VII in a retirement match. Warrior here did his best work as far as promos go in his career. Yeah they were still out there but for the most part you could understand what his thoughts were.Savage like I said was killing it in this department.
The match at Mania is hands down Warrior's best match of his career. The storytelling here is off the charts with Savage giving Warrior all those elbow drops and yet he still kicks out.Plus you had Warrior at point questioning his destiny with him teasing a walkout. The reuniting of Mach/Liz post match was the cherry on top.
As far as the 92 feud goes, While nowhere near this one it was still very good with the tease of one em going heel and joining Perfect/Flair was well done. The match at SSlam 92 finish aside was another home run between the two.Shame their run as a tag team was cut short after this.
From start to finish you got yourself another masterful feud here.

Another favorite feud of mine. Two of my favorite wrestlers growing up. I always felt that Savage got the best out of Warrior (just ahead of Rude). Their feud leading up to the WM7 retirement match was excellent. Like The Brain says, I too wish Savage would have entered the Rumble then have Warrior come down and chase him out of the building. The match at WM7 was excellent, one of the best in WrestleMania history - definitely Warrior's finest moment. I also liked their feud in 1992, not as good as their previous feud but still excellent. I really liked the interview segment with these two and Mean Gene, the interference from Flair and Perfect. I also liked the setup to see who joined forces with Flair and Perfect. Their match with the Nasty Boys was fun as well. I do wish their tag team run would have lasted a little longer. Overall, these two were great and Savage and Warrior worked really well with one another. EDIT: Also, like The Brain said, Warrior and DiBiase had a really good match a SNME in 1990. Too bad these two didn't have a feud with each other, I think DiBiase could have really helped Warrior like Savage, Rude, and Hogan did. His promo before the match was excellent as well, he was focused and in control, one of his best.

Just wrapped up WM VII. I remember not really getting into the Career vs. Career Match at first. Guess spoiled by Attitude/RA Era ADD match chaos, because I absolutely enjoy it now. All the drama they were able to convey, even down to the subdued Warrior entrance to underscore the importance of the match.
I know there are other factors to consider like the role patriotism was manipulated to "send the fans home happy" and having the title end the show, not to mention Hogan's popularity. But how powerful a moment would that have been to end that night with Savage reuniting with Elizabeth?

One of the most memorable feuds from my childhood. I legit could not have been any more invested in this angle. These two were magic together.
While I will always say that warrior was far better in the ring than people give him credit for. Savage could have a great match with pretty much anyone.
That wrestlemania match is one of my all time favourites. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster from the entrances to the end.

I also gotta mention the smooth transition Savage made when he was put in the booth post Mania VII. He instantly clicked in the color role.
The team of Vince,Savage and Piper were a great 3 man team for Superstars that year and this is coming from a guy who was never fond of 3 man booths to begin with.
