I know they had an Intermission after this match but no Intermission could be long enough to bring that crowd back.
Poor Demolitions official burial against 2 Japan guys got sacrificed. That match for me was the Main Event of WM VII. The first half of that show had my 4 favorite matches from that show in Warrior/Savage, Harts/Nasties, Rockers/Heenan Family, Bulldog/Warlord plus Takers Mania debut.
The 2nd half fell completely flat for me. The Boss Man non finish was a big ring on that match for me.
Tale of 2 Manias.

Just wrapped up WM VII. I remember not really getting into the Career vs. Career Match at first. Guess spoiled by Attitude/RA Era ADD match chaos, because I absolutely enjoy it now. All the drama they were able to convey, even down to the subdued Warrior entrance to underscore the importance of the match. I know there are other factors to consider like the role patriotism was manipulated to "send the fans home happy" and having the title end the show, not to mention Hogan's popularity. But how powerful a moment would that have been to end that night with Savage reuniting with Elizabeth?I would've been all for Savage/Warrior being the main event. The ending with Liz man what a moment.

Terry Funk vs Ric Flair
One of my fav feuds in the history of NWA/WCW right here. The attack on Flair at WrestleWar 89 was so well done with Flair selling the attack to perfection. The non gimmicked table is another plus of the whole segment.Crazy Funk=GOLD
The build for the big title showdown was great as you had Funk calling em out on his segment ''Funk's Grill''. It took me a little bit to get used to Flair in the babyface role after a good 5 years but man he jelled right back into it with that interview he did with JR on the Clash that June. The match at GAB is fantastic. They made Funk a legit threat to take the title so that just helped in the drama department of this match.Must see match for all old school NWA fans here.
The feud would escalate even more with Sting and Muta getting involved to set up a big tag team inside the thunderdome cage at Havoc that year. Again great stuff here at my fav Havoc in history. The big finale though at the Clash in the I quit match tops the cake in this feud. Just straight up classic old school brutality at it's finest between two of the greats.Having Gordon Solie call this one is another treat. Hands down my fav I Quit match in history. Magnum/Tully is up there but this one tops my list.
I HIGHLY recommend this to all fans wanting to get into this time period of the company.

Forgot to mention their brief feud in 2000. It was a nice throwback but that's where the positives stop lol

Ultimate Warrior vs Macho Man Randy Savage was probably the greatest Wrestlemania match that didnt have Shawn Michaels in it.

Ultimate Warrior vs Macho Man Randy Savage was probably the greatest Wrestlemania match that didnt have Shawn Michaels in it. I think there were a lot of great matches at WM that didn't have Shawn Michaels in it. For instance, Bret vs. Austin - in my opinion the best match in WM history.

How about tag teams?
LOD vs New Age Outlaws just sprung to mind, it was a pretty pivotal feud in getting the NAO over.

NAO vs LOD
Who would've thought Billy Gunn and Road Dogg would be as over as they were as the Outlaws considering the gimmicks they had prior to joining up in late 97.I remember being legit surprised when they switched the belts on that Raw only a month after LOD finally captured em for the 2nd time.
Outlaws played the chicken sh** heels great here with them not only cheating to win but how they showed em escaping in their car post match. The attack just a few weeks later with HBK and Trips joining in on the attack was well done. They showed the Outlaws could be ruthless behind all their goofiness. And with this the seeds were officially planted for the Outlaws to join DX post Mania XIV.
I will say though while none of the matches these two teams had together were nothing to write home about, The Outlaws were getting some good heat with the fans wanting the LOD to destroy em in the end and take back the belts. Myself being a LOD fan forever I was one of those fans.It was an easy story that worked to a tee.As far as the tail of the feud with LOD in their ''2000'' phase goes, Well the less said about that run the better lol. You can bet it will be on the polls in the gimmick thread in the future.
Overall...I was never a big NAO fan but man props to them in getting over the way they did here during this feud.

Great post buddy I was so excited when the Legion of Doom returned in 1997 and for some reason thought I was getting the LOD that I loved back in 1990-1992... that was not the case of course, but their little run with the Outlaws was great to see. It really did get them over and I was legit shocked when they went crazy on the LOD it really is what made me personally take them seriously.

LOD winning the belts in October 97 was the last great moment of their run together IMO. Even though it was so short I was glad they got em one more time.

It would have been nice if LOD won the belts in Greensboro at Unforgiven 98. NWA country!

Could you please do the Feud between Rick Martel and Tito Santana Got ya noted brother.
That would be a fun feud to cover as they always seemed to cross paths with each other during that era.Great continuity there.

Rick Martel vs Tito Santana
The Mega- Powers weren't the only team exploding in early 1989. Martel turning heel at WM V and officially dissolving Strike Force in the process was not only well done but unpredictable. Jesse on commentary justifying his actions with Gorilla getting on em for abandoning his tag partner was awesome storytelling here.Great way to kick off Martel's solo run.SF implodes!

And with this Martel would start his heel run with Slick becoming his manager until the end of the year. Good choice to ease em into the new heel role.
The feud never had an ending but like I said in the past it's amazing how these two always crossed paths with each other for the next 4 years.Especially in Rumbles, Seeing those two going after each other like the Rockers over the years in the same match was great.
This is a feud here that deserved to have a Mania finale. WM VI would've been ideal. They teased a match between the two at SSlam 90 but Martel had ''Paris commitments'' while in reality IRC he was injured. Overall though great feud here.

Another great write up my good sir I love both these guys and Tito was a firm favorite of mine when I first got into wrestling. I always thought it was strange this did not have a big blow off match, but reading what you wrote about SummerSlam 90 was interesting as I had no idea he was actually injured. I think had it gone down that it would have been Martel who would have gone over.

Here's the report with the match announced...
And I agree with Martel getting the W. Tito by that point was all about putting over guys. You could always count a good match with him though nonetheless.
