I think your point is actually a good example of my point. I feel like Cornette hates AEW mainly because he has a grudge with Omega. Therefore, he goes the extra mile to find stuff to hate about AEW I see what you're saying because of the rants he goes on but none of the stuff I've heard him criticize so far comes from 'pure hatred'. The lack of selling, the lack of polish, the lack of coherence in storyline decision making (in both companies, really) are all extremely warranted criticisms that keep someone like me who has at one time been one of wrestlings biggest advocates from even coming close to watching on a regular basis. I don't think the responses of "well, wrestling is changing" and "everyone already knows its a work, lets have fun" are good excuses for this, either. I think there's room for guys like Orange Cassidy but it isn't in the main event. Otherwise, why not do your absolute best to make this look more like a real fight as much as humanly possible and less like an aerobics competition? For me it's the same across both companies. I see that dude Reginald dodging with flips and jumps and its just like who does this benefit except 5 year olds who don't know any better and someone who is obsessed with Cirque du Soleil? Most of the rest of folks (casuals, possible new fans, old school fans, etc.) see that and couldn't care less. So while Jim's ranting is either 'love it or hate it' for most folks (though I can't think of a moment I've really disagreed about even the people he gets mad over) his overall criticisms about protecting the business and actually making it look good, enjoyable and competitive sports-based is for sure in fairness. The reason I think he gets so angry (like many of us that used to really love this) is because these are basic, common sense level considerations that are just mostly overlooked. We have gems here and there but I can't in good conscience call any of this 'overall great' at the moment, even if I'm really trying to enjoy it and it comes down largely to the types of things Jim says. I hear ya, and look, the aerobics are something that I have always criticized. I often say, they use to tell us “it’s not ballet” and that’s exactly what it’s become. There are no consequences to high risk maneuvers & everybody, Especially in WWE, are too much of a mark with the constant crying on screen and breaking character anytime they hit a high spot or fans cheer, I hate that stuff. Say what you will about guys like Warrior, but he never broke character mid match and started marking out on his way to the ring like guys like Kevin Owens do. Where I feel AEW is better is that they have better characters and they stay in character. They don’t constantly play to the camera, every backstage segment does not need to be in the same room, with the same lighting, standing in the same spots etc. WWE is horribly monotonous. Why must every pin-fall happen facing the hard camera? These are little things AEW gets, it’s a bit more spontaneous and the more veterans they add, I feel they’ll continue to become more polished, and they are. Bare in mind, when I say I enjoy AEW, that is coming from a starving man stranded in the desert for 5 years saying water is the most delicious thing I have ever tasted haha. I am a starved wrestling fan, and all I can say is what I see from WWE isn’t going anywhere for me, AEW at least is doing enough different to keep me interested in it’s growth. Cornette, where he always loses me is his vision of wrestling is like 80s NWA. He’d rather have 2 guys go out in black trunks and fight in an hour long draw and I’d rather see guys like The Ultimate Warrior haha. I always preferred the characters, and the entertainment aspect of wrestling, mixed in with the logical moves and wrestling.

I think the fact that so many great old school vets like Arn Anderson and Jim Ross are involved in AEW proves that many of the beloved greats of the past agree the business has to evolve. From Dory and Jack to Flair and Hogan to Bret and Shawn to Attitude to Ruthless Aggression to Punk and Bryan to McIntyre and Reigns, things never stay the same. I love the AEW style and the Bucks and Omega. I love the E, loved (a lot of) WCW, loved (a lot of) TNA. We need it all. Cornette has a brilliant mind for the business, but he could choose to appreciate his own style as well as the new guard. But, by being the Rush Limbaugh of pro wrestling analysis, he gains more of a following - thus, more fame and money. He'll only stop when people stop paying attention.

I think the problem is, that yes some of his criticisms are accurate, but the toxic manner he chooses to relay these criticisms. by that I mean this: AEW has a ton of young people who are working hard to establish themselves, and Cornette takes shots directly at the individuals and lives of these people. to say it lacks compassion would be generous. I was hoping that after Brody’s passing he could realize, “yeah this crapisn’t for me, but I don’t need to attempt to publicly degrade the company and talent nonstop.” that didn’t happen though. hopefully Tony and AEW being respectful of Bobby’s passing can have some type of impact on Jim where he doesn’t need to go for the jugular every single week. I am yet to see ‘the’ perfect wrestling program - every company has had strengths and weaknesses.
