How do we all feel about this? I'm a moc collector so this changes everything. Box packaging is going to have to be beautiful for me to carry on collecting to justify buying a product you can't see. Hot Toys have managed it pretty well so it can be done, but I feel Mattel are going to have to up their game on the current blue elite packaging. It's really cheap looking and without a product on show, I'm not buying. Here's a look at the very first closed box Marvel Legends shown today. Hasbro seem to be leaps ahead in the toy industry compared to Mattel.

Terrible idea. Just fuels thieves/scammers if you can’t see what is (or isn’t) in the box. Especially if you’re buying from someone say on FB or eBay.

I wonder how Hasbro are going to deal with scammers? Maybe a metal strip or something instead of tape that can’t be easily cut? I don’t know. I knew this was coming but had no idea Hasbro we’re already doing it.

I'm a fan of removing plastic as much as possible from goods. I don't really care about scammers and think people wildly oversell how much that's going to happen or affect our collecting experience.
Although this all seems premature, because I haven't seen Mattel make nearly as many overtures towards plastic-free packaging as Hasbro does.

I think it will hurt sales and they will revert back to plastic eventually.
It is not uncommon for figures to have messed up eyes. I had trouble finding a Jake the Snake that was looking straight ahead. If I can't see what I am buying, I probably won't buy it.

Considering Hasbro forgot to put the alternate heads in a load of their recent Power Rangers figures, this seems...not great.

lets do what we can to help the environment....but this is a bad move overall. its going to create an absolute mess for collectors. i guarantee stores will see "thefts" increase, swaps will be worse, online sales will be worse. people are underestimating how scummy some can be. its also going to be less sales for people who like carded figures. there's no point in buying a picture of the thing that's supposed to be in the box.
instead of removing it completely, why not use a better kind of plastic or use LESS. make the boxes smaller, get rid of the inner bubble and switch to those paper rope tie things. put all accessories just in a bio-bag. there are a lot of options.
this also should lead to a price decrease shouldnt it? plastic is supposedly one of the things companies are being overcharged for, so now its going to cost less....right??? lmao yeah i bet we will see another increase to keep the profits high.
naturally this is a product of our society. people dont like something? erase it completely from past present and future. don't look for a reasonable middle ground...just eliminate it from existence.

Meh. Not ideal, but I'll go with the flow.

A more sensible idea imo would be to look for more recycled plastic options rather than do away with it all together

For a good example of how scummy people can be watch YouTube vids of people who buy liquidated amazon returns. You see all sorts, PlayStation and Xbox games returned with empty boxes, old or mostly used products returned, you get all sorts

Ridiculous, might as well keep the box and sell the figure inside if you collect moc
