How about Flex Force style packaging, which was mostly cardboard, with the accessories packaged in the bottom (like SDCC Slaughter), so people can't just walk by and take them. You will have a situation where something like the head which is easily swappable now gets stolen a la Space Jam Lebron James figure somebody mentioned earlier It's nothing a sharpie couldn't fix.

I'm a fan of removing plastic as much as possible from goods. I don't really care about scammers and think people wildly oversell how much that's going to happen or affect our collecting experience. Although this all seems premature, because I haven't seen Mattel make nearly as many overtures towards plastic-free packaging as Hasbro does. Yeah you say now you don't care but i have seen sooooo may RA or Basic returns in Elite and Ultimate boxes around me so, this will just get worse if you can't even see what is in the box until you open it. Wait till you get home and 3 or 4 times and you found an RA John Cena or Basic Roman in your Elite package.

I will say I am a MOC collector, and if Mattel or Jaz do decide to go plastic free I am def going to have to take a deep look at what I will do from that point one. Yes I understand figures are might to be played with and displayed. I'm not that type of collector who is looking to sell down the road as I have been into wrestling actions figures since I was basically 2 and now I am 38. I still have my childhood LJN, Hasbros and Jakks figures. I mainly started collecting MOC with the Classic Superstars line and hasn't look back since. Hell the Mattel Retros I get two one to have loose one to have MOC. I was once offered I'll say enough money to buy a brand new Jeep in 2016 for my Classic Superstars line and what Elites I had at the time and didn't take the offer, so shows that I am not looking to sell anything. But as I said if Wrestling figure go this plastic free in their packaging will def need to see what I do and stopping collecting isn't a choice.

I like to collect loose and moc. The whole appeal of moc to me is to see the fig displayed on/in the packaging.

I'd have to go to the customer service desks of stores less than 3 miles from my apartment. The horror.
I have literally never seen a figure swap in person. Also, I rarely ever buy figures in stores anymore. I'm not wasting my time checking Target and Wal-Mart for figures that aren't there. I order things online like a normal person in 2022.
And again, there are multiple options to protect packages against tampering that multiple people have brought up in this thread.

Jazwares's entire model with the AEW line is over a decade old, at this rate they won't get to plastic reduction until we're all eating Soylent Green.

This is a great point about scams with returns.

Lot of people saying they will stop collecting but really won’t.

The tear strip like the one on the Slim Jim Macho Man seems like the best option to slow down the figure swaps. At least if you see the strip been removed you know someone messed with it.
I don't like the idea of plastic free packaging as a MOC collector but I want to continue collecting so I guess I'm just hoping for the best.

As someone who collects mostly MOC figures for the purpose of getting them signed eventually this really sucks (and I actually collect Hasbro's lightning collection for the same reason so it's gonna be extra brutal). I think its just an awful idea all around and anyone who believes this is for the environment and not the next stage of cost cutting is fooling themselves. Even if they implemented the tear away seals I keep seeing mentioned it doesn't solve the QC problem.

You seem to think you speak for the majority of people but judging from multiple comments it's clear you don't. Just because you're holed up in your "apartment" all day long and order ONLY online doesn't mean most other people enjoy having lives, friends and yes buying their products from physical stores. Go to your local Wal Mart and Target and tell the thousands of people that shop every day that you and you alone are the judge of what a "normal" person does with their money and free time. As a MOC and loose collector I can assure you that I will NEVER EVER buy a figure that I can't see in the box. EVER. No Hogan. No Steiner. Nothing. You can believe what you want but I'm pretty big time into the hobby and I've spoken with MULTIPLE people that told me that if this is the direction companies are heading along with RISING prices then they have no problem quiting the hobby and using their money for multiple other options. This WILL have a significant affect on sales going forward and will affect the quality and quanity of future lines. End of discussion.

We're a sample size of what? .000000001% of Mattel's business?
And those of us ordering online do so because we have lives. Going to a store to look for WWE Elites and inspect them for paint defects and harass workers to check in the back isn't evidence of having a life. You're not making friends in the toy aisle at Target, get out of here with that.
Opening this to the floor, but do you people have, like, problems in your life? I'd tell you to touch grass but at least building a future without it is a coherent plan.

I mean Tomy in Japan does this with their Tomica cars. They come in a little red and white box with an illustration of the car on the one side of the box. The only plastic is the shrink wrap sealing the box and a plastic sleeve protecting the car inside
