I love how you are suppose to respect them just because they have a ing badge. I don't care who you are, if I think what you're doing is wrong, I'll tell you. police, badges, guns. but whos gonan protect you when those horrible blacks break in and try to steal your stuff?

I love how people think every cop is like this when truth be told they aren't. The kid didn't hear him which is fine but calling him "Dude" is disrespectful. I don't give a **** if your 4 or 14. He is still older than you & deserves your respect with a "sir". No matter how big of a ass he was. You know if that was me & I was out there busting my ass to keep people like him from getting killed & he disrespected me like that he was that officer then he deserved all of that. Just listen to the way the kid awsnered him & try to tell me that he didnt deserve that. Being thrown on the ground is about the only thing I see wrong but if the kid wouldn't have been worried about his stupid skate board being took he wouldn't have gotten thrown on the ground. Simple as that.
Maybe I was just raised to respect people & listen when someone talks me no matter if they are being an ass you don't start to be a smart ass to them. THe cop didn't do anything wrong besides thorw him on the ground. Simple as that.
Plus, they was skating where they couldnt skate. He could've been like the rest of his friends & listened to the cop & shut up then none of this woud have happended. And someone told me they are sueing.. why? Theres video footage of the kid being a smart ass. Two wrongs dont make a right. See.. this is why younger kids need to learn when to shut up.

The kid wasn't a smart ass. He said he didn't hear him. I'll say one thing though, that kid has a lot of patience, and knows how to control a temper. I'm not one to disrespect authority, but if that rent-a-cop fat was talking to me like that, I would have talked back as well, much worse than that kid did.

That isn't the point. He kept calling him dude which showed him NO RESPECT what soever. YOu don't call a cop (or any adult) dude unless you know them personally even then it is pissing it. He is a 14 year old kid, ridding a Skate Board, where he CANT ride a skate board, & instead of going "Oh okay. I'm sorry I didn't know I can't skate here & It'll never happening agian" even if it was a flat lie he decided to get smart with him by egging him own. The cop is the reason he can walk outside his house without getting shot, mugged, raped, murdered etc. So, lets see.. cop, respect him kinda goes hand in hand no matter what the officer is doing. It all could have been prevented if he kid knew when to just shut up & not egg him on.

The cop is being sued for assaulting a teenager who didn't show/present a threat. The rule of engagement for police officers is "suspects level plus one"
for those who don't understand that concept example time:
Suspect throws a punch, cops are allowed to use detention techniques, cuffs, batons.
Suspect presents a weapon, cops are allowed to use deadly force or less than lethal force to subdue and control the suspect.
Now our scenario
Kid talks back...Police officer is allowed to choke and throw kid to ground?...um no.
Kid talks back; the proper response should have been ordering the youths to sit down (without touching them) on the steps with their skateboards on the ground in front of them with their hands on their heads while he decided to either berate them some more or ticket them/confiscate the boards and send them home.
physical assault is not the proper response in this case. So much so that Internal Affairs in his department agreed and had his reassigned to desk duty.
so again, F that cop.
EDIT: oh and I've been to the inner harbor where this looks like it took place. Its generally known that there is no skating in the harbor anywhere, HOWEVER there aren't signs posted everywhere. And I'll admit, I was a dumb teenager once, if I didn't see a sign posted, I would have assumed it was ok to skate. AND where these guys were it didn't look like they were hurting anyone or causing a problem.
that being said, the cop should have ordered the kids to stop (which he did) and told them to leave the area and made sure that they did.
The kid in the video was wearing headphones and admitted he did not hear the cop, although he didn't verbalize it in the best possible way. This is when the cop decided to go off on a rant.

That cop had ZERO justification for that. If you cant handle a 14 year old calling you a "dude" then your a moron, and your pathetic.....and in no way should you be a cop. I work with kids, and I know they say some dumb things (being called dude is NOT even that disrespectful, unless your someone who has self esteem issues) and thats gonna happen because they are kids. thats what kids do. you dont blow up over it.
That kid is definately gonna get some money out of this.

I agree with Krayzie.
A police badge does not automatically equal respect. What it does equal is courtesy. Which the kid did show him. The kid explained to him in a calm voice that he didn't hear him. It's only when the cop got defensive and pissy about being called "dude" that the kid, to me a 25 year old, started being a douche...but he's a kid, he's supposed to be stupid and young.
and this kids gonna own that cops house.

Wow.. maybe my parents just raised me diffrent than everyone else here & I acutally respect other people enough to say Yes sir and no sir. Im not saying the cop didnt get an attitude but the kid did nothing help himself he should have done like his friends & just stood there & didn't talk unless he was spoken to & THEN explain it to him respectfully. Sorry, I think calling adults dude is disrespectful but that was the way I was raised.
