In hindsight....I would of done the ECW invasion and saved the wcw 'invasion' until they had hogan, nash, hall, goldberg a year or two later. Perhaps instead of a wcw invasion they could of done the nWo invading (kinda like they did) except have nWO destroy all the big faces (to establish legitimate threat which they didnt do with the nWo) at the time....then have goldberg debut to save the rock or whoever and team up with stone cold or whoever to take down the nWo
I know that talk was that wcw just got purchased by wwe and they even showed shane at the last nitro on raw and all. But an ECW invasion would of made more sense in 2001 especially since they had more big names from ECW then they had wcw at the time. And it would be made more sense historically as ECW had invaded RAW back in 1997 and Paul Heyman to be the mouth. Of course that meant wwe would of to give some of the ECW guys credibility and eventually establish some of the old ecw stars as new wwe stars. Aside from the Dudleyz, Rhyno and RVD no one else really mattered to the wwe.

It still sickens me how mistreated Booker and DDP were by Vince and the WWF. Two legit top guys who were arguably just as over as Hall and Nash were when they jumped to WCW, yet both were booked into the ground before the Invasion PPV. DDP was the most credible guy they had and a 3x world champ, yet he was made into Taker's bitch and even jobbed to his wife. He was made to look like nothing when he was a top star during WCW's highest pointt. Not even funny how badly he was booked considering the angles they could have ran w/ him.
As for Booker, I don't buy the crap people throw out by saying he wasn't a "true" top guy when WCw was bought out. He was a long time WCW employee who worked his way to the top and was arguably WCW's most popular face by the time WCW went under. Wins over Nash, Steiner, Jarrett, and even friggin Goldberg (yes he got a clean win over Goldberg) made the fans buy into him. He was a serious character and for some reason was turned into a stereotypical black man in the WWE. I loved his gimmick of a serious champ in WCW in 2000, but hated his "stupid black man" gimmick in the WWE. Hell, WWE mid-carders even made Booker look like crap.
Another one people seem to forget is that Jeff Jarrett's contract was also included in the WCW purchase. Say what you want about him but he was an effective heel champ and a main eventer in WCW. He was also getting over pretty big in the WWE in 1999 before jumping to WCW. I don't care what kind of bad blood Vince had because Jarrett didn't "blackmail" him in 1999, and Jarrett should have been brought in in 2001.
Ric Flair's contract was also included in the purchase, yet he was also kept off TV. I get flair felt he was in no shape, more physically than mentally, to come back to an in-ring role, but even coming in as the leader of WCW would have been great. Have Big Show and Jericho turn heel, and you have a solid group of stars in Booker T, DDP, Jeff Jarrett, Chris Jericho, Big Show, and Ric Flair to build the Invasion around as its main heels. And thats not even including ECW guys like RVD and Mike Awsome who they also could have made top heels.

oh yes the tools to make this work were there-NO DOUBT.it was all in the presentation. also the ego trips that went on here were phenomenal and so damaging.the loathsome Stephanie McMahon(I ing despise her) is as much to blame as Vince.her real life hatred of Heyman has led to more short sighted decisions than anything.

Does anyone else find it annoying that not long after the invasion ended Ric Flair, the nWo, Mr Perfect and Rey Mysterio started to arrive and they all could've been great Alliance members since they were on WCW.

eh no, as the alliance was already swamped with talent that they didn't have enough air time for, AND we got to see those individuals shine because they did not get involved - with the exception of perfect due to his untimely death.
when ric flair was the co-ceo, i marked.

Always annoyed me, that all the big WCW talent showed up in the next couple years after the Invasion storyline ended. Hell with Flair coming back the next night, they could have done something different at Survivor Series, where they didn't have winner takes all, but have it seem like if they lost, Stephanie and Shane wouldn't be able to keep up running things, and the next night you find Flair bought them out and was the new WCW boss. I also would have liked it more if ECW and WCW didn't become the Alliance. I would have preferred to have seen ECW continued as the rebels, playing both sides against eachother for their own gain.

i agree with the idea that ecw and wcw never should've allied, as the two companies and their head bookers/bosses LOATHED each other.
i bet that just made heyman a bit sick.

What they should have done is have the initial alliance between ECW and WCW, but then at an important event, Heyman and his guys turn on WCW, screwing them out of a big match. Then you have things like guys on both WCW and WWE side having their loyalties questioned if they had a past with ECW, or have segments with guys from either side, that weren't being used much talking with Heyman, trying to get them to come to the ECW side.

To me the Alliance was a bad idea and the smartest thing Vince could have done was leave WCW and ECW as they're own. He would own all three companies but would give more variety to the fans. I know I would love Heyman running ECW as it was. And it would still be here if he had someone who knew financials because Heyman did not. He could have let Shane "Run" WCW and Steph "Run" ECW. Steph was had already pulled Paul in so it would have worked. Then they could have done events like The Royal Rumble,War Games,Survivor Series,World War 3 with wrestlers from all 3 companies.

People always crap on the Alliance story line, but at the time me and my buddies ing loved every moment of it. Its easy to look back and say they could have done this and that differently and I agree there is somethings they could have done better. However at the time live I thought it was great TV each week.

The Alliance storyline would have been so much better with nWo, Goldberg, Steiner, etc.

I love the whole Invasion storyline, but one thing which I never understood, was how come Al Snow, Maven & William Regal not enter the Immunity Battle Royal at Survivor Series, instead we saw Al Snow wrestle Christian for the WWF European Championship (Fair enough, Christian was safe either way, as he was an Alliance member, so he had a roster spot if they won, yet holding a WWF Championship, keeping him a spot on the WWF roster, however in Snow's case, even if he won or lost, if the Alliance won, he didn't try to get his job back), next was William Regal who wrestled Tajiri, (Once again Tajiri was safe as he was a WWF member, but he was holding a WCW Championship, Regal would've been smart to jump in the Battle Royal) Also what ever happened to Maven, I know who was on the WWF side in the Alliance storyline, as he wrestle at least three times (three matches against Tazz).

I remember watching the Invasion Angle back in 2001 and thinking "wtf is this..." The Austin-Angle feud and Rock-Jericho feud were both entertaining, but this was not the WCW Invasion we fans deserved. I remember changing the channel when they announced that Stephanie owned ECW. Total BS. And for as great Undertaker is, his ego was ridiculous around this time and he refused to make ANYONE from the Alliance look good. Him, Kane, and even Taker's wife burried DDP, Kanyon, O'Haire, Stasiak, and Palumbo w/in weeks. Kronic was next on their hit list (though to be fair Kronic was total crap in their one match), and then he went on to destroy Booker T in a feud Booker desperatly needed to look good in after putting the Rock over on numerous occasions. And the fact that WWF mid-carders like William Regal, Christian, and Test were made to look better than WCW main eventers like Booker T and DDP was criminal (nothing against Christian and Regal but they were no more than mear mid-carders at the time).

Absolutely. The angle was obviously deeply flawed, but I was young at the time and I ate every second of it up. My interest in wrestling peaked in 2001, I don't think I could ever get back to that level again. Not to mention, every Pay-Per-View that year had at least one really great match. There's so much I loved about the Invasion, and 2001 as a whole.

It's kind of interesting how everything worked out perfectly, with Rock being able to have his big feud with Hogan for WMX8 right before he left. Did WWF plan on bringing Hogan (or the nWo in general) in right at that time or was it a coincidence? What if Hogan had come in in say November 2001 right after the invasion, then his feud with Rock could have ended up over by the RR...what would Rock have done for the three months remaining until his departure? Would they have made the feud stretch to WM anyway? What do you think?

Rock would have gone over Nash or Hall at RR or something. Hogan/Rock would have still been mania.

It was NOT a coincidence. Hogan came back at that time for sole intentions of a wrestlemania match

I think if he would have come in earlier with the nWo, they would have just did whatever until Rumble and started building Rock vs Hogan.

If they nWo came in earlier the invansion angle would have been a lot wilder. You would have had the Alliance feuding with both the nWo & WWF. Plus guys like Sting, Flair, Goldberg would have been available for the invasion angle as WWE would have bought out their contracts. The reason it was only minor WCW guys in the Invasion angle is because they were the ones who couldn't afford to sit out for a signifigant amount of time.
Hogan v Rock would have still happened at Mania, but it would have probably been a title match
