It was a ridiculous discussion, that is why. We are talking about showering or now sleeping, when the whole point of the thread is about gay people being able to serve openly.
Admiral Mullen has already said if straight people don't like it they can get a dishonorable discharge and leave the military.
I guess I don't know what straight guys are attracted to, but I'm not attracted to the body part. I'm attracted to the person. Just because they have the part doesn't mean I'm going to be attracted to them.

I doubt that will stop A from being attracted to B, so why should A be allowed to sleep in the same room with their "crush" B. We're not trying to stop people from being attracted to one another. We're just trying to make it so that people don't have to be NAKED in front of people who might be attracted to them... |

No, but you have to create a new schedule. Not really. It's not difficult to create dividers. I can't imagine it costing more than a few hundred, maybe a couple thousand dollars per base. Oh great. More  ing spending. The govt. spends too much as it is. If DADT was left alone, there wouldnt be a need for this.  BTW, in case anyone is wondering, I am not saying I support DADT. As I really am torn, but do lean towards it. im not conceited, youre simply oblivious to the obvious. The obvious is "Who gives a ?" You are there to do a job, to protect the country and defeat the enemy. You think gay people see it any differently? You think they are there just so they can take a look at someone else's junk? They can't see that back home, they want to travel across the world so they can sneak peaks at someone? No, they are there to do what is asked of them. No ING way! Just b/c they are soldiers in a war zone, doesnt mean they arent thinking of sex. Thats ridiculous to say. Sure, in the middle of a fire fight.....they arent thinking that. But during down time? They are human beings. What about white guys who are afraid of showering with black guys? Should we make separate areas for each race? How about we make a separate shower for those who feel uncomfortable, everyone else can use the other showers. The only way to make EVERYONE comfortable is to give every soldier a private showering stall. What about the blue eyed guys who dont want to shower with brown eyed guys who dont want to shower with hairy ass guys who want shower with guys with long finger nails?!??! C'mon! Sexual attraction and the color of your skin are completely different. Gays may face much of what blacks did in the 60s, but its not the same. Well Slappy, you should know by know that I'm not a bigot. I just know how guys are. We're a bunch of creeps who think about sex constantly. Gay or straight. To act like there wouldn't be sexual tension is absurd. But how is it different than now? John showers with Jay for 15 years. Tomorrow Jay comes out. Now John is worried about showering with Jay? Do straight people think that now with the policy repealed that gay people will start molesting them in the showers or something like that? WTF?! Why is it Jay has to be the one that comes out? Why cant John? Or why cant his name be Bob?  But what would be the point of lying and saying you are gay? Was it just so you could become friends with those girls and see them undress? Would someone who is gay pretend to be straight just to see a member of the same sex naked? Ask Adam Sandler that question there Chuck. At the VA hospitals, should we have a straight wing and a gay wing? I guess we'll need straight water fountains and gay water fountains as well. Perhaps if you are seated on a bus and you are gay and a straight man comes on, you should give your seat to the straight man. Or perhaps each straight man should have a gay slave or 2. I refused to see that movie, because that is exactly what the opponents of same-sex marriage want you to believe. That if it is legal, straight guys will marry each other to scam someone. It's bullshit, so I refused to watch.
Yes, we haven't been slaves, well not as a whole. We were rounded up by Nazis and killed during WWII though. We continue to be killed all over the world for who we are. Countries do kill people for being gay. It is a slow genocide in those countries.

I dont think Adam Sandler sat around trying to figure out how he can make a movie to denounce gay marriage or make any type of political statement. Entertainment only. As far as straight people scamming the govt. or health care or whatever for extra benefits, so what? Its a pitfall of the world, just like people who marry people from another country to get them a visa. The gay marriage issue is way more complex than just this 1 thing. I'm sure every race has had to face some trial and tribulation in foreign countries. HOWEVER, we are not talking about other countries. This is an issue of civil rights vs. gay rights here in the US, more specifically DADT being repealed. DADT does not apply to foreign armies. So while being killed for being, gay, black, Asian or whatever is an awful thing.....it doesnt pertain to this argument. |

We are not allowed to marry our partner in this country. We can be fired for being gay. In some states you cannot adopt a kid if you are gay. In some states you can be denied housing for being gay. These are all civil rights issues that we MUST address. We cannot just sit by and think that things are alright when they are not close.

Want to be gay and be the real you.......dont join the military. The military is NOT for people who are individuals or a home for creativeness. Its for people to follow orders and be a soldier. 2. I dont know the number either. How many of that 14,000 might not even be gay and did it as a way out? There are factors that go into a stat like that. 3. Is ing a guy gay? Yes. Can you choose to a guy? Yes. Thus.....you choose to be gay. I see what you are getting at, but I hope you can see what I am getting at. You can be gay without BEING gay. For the longest time, I never knew NPH was gay. NEVER would have dreamed it. But then he came out. He was gay without BEING gay. 4. Close minded people will find any movie or any book and try and use things to support their hate. Hell, the KKK thinks the NBA is a great reason for why blacks should die. 5. You cant marry your partner. DAMN RIGHT! One thing I most definitely support without question. Marriage is a bond between and man and woman. Want a civil union to share in the same government tax benefits as a married couple? Fine by me. But marriage? No. You can be fired for being gay. You can be fired for wearing blue, instead of brown. You can be fired for coming in on time every day. Unfortunately, its the way of life and nothing is gonna change that. Hell, you can be fired for being straight. They just say you arent meeting expectations. Adoption is another one I am kind of iffy about. Do I think a straight couple can raise a kid better than a gay couple? No. Do I think a straight couple can provided added benefits that a gay couple cannot? Yes. Slappy, you say you are born gay and you cant choose to be gay. But if you are born and then adopted by a gay couple...spending all your childhood with 2 men who show love for you and one another.....isnt it possible that the child will grow to see this and think that is how they should be? How many times do we hear people are a product of their enviroment? Take for instance someone who grows up in the hood....MANY grow up to be drug dealers, killers, etc. Its what they know. Surviving, the streets, etc. Its what they know. An abusive father who beats his wife and the child sees it. Many times they will become abusive b/c thats what they see. Definitely not saying its ABSOLUTE or anything of the like, but there is definite evidence of becoming a product of your enviroment. I guess the same can be said with a straight couple adopting a child. Perhaps that child grows to be straight b/c they become a product. Like I said.....its iffy. I dont know any states that they can flat out tell you that you are gay and thus you cant have this job, house or car. Can they make up a reason and then deny you....sure can. But they can do that for any of the above number of reasons. |

When you are off base and with friends, you can be you without fear of being reported. If you go to a gay club while off duty, you don't have to worry about being found out and reported. When you arrive home, you can actually have your significant other there waiting for you. When you see them you can hug them and kiss them without fear that you just had contact with a member of the same sex so you will now be reported. If you are over there and talking about what is keeping you sane or focused on going home, when your mate says his wife and 3 kids, you can actually say your husband and 3 kids. You don't have to lie about your loved one back home.
Harris has been gay. I don't care if you knew it or if he pranced around on TV saying it. He was gay before he let you know. Being gay or straight is hardwired into your brain. You can fight it, but it will always be there. If you are straight and never have relations with a woman, guess what, you are still straight. Just like a gay guy never having relations with a man is still gay. You don't have to do anything to show your "gayness."
Why can't we marry? If Britney Spears can be married for 55 hours or people can marry someone they "won" on TV, it is no longer a sacred institution.
I doubt you'll be fired for being straight. In those states, they can actually walk up to you and say they don't like that you are gay and that it reflects poorly on their image so they are letting you go. They don't need to make up an excuse.
Well, let's see. I was raised by my mom and dad and I turned out the way I did. It is very iffy to argue that. Every gay person I know was raised by straight people.
This guy did his own study where he was trying to rent a house, he called the rental place using different accents, the rental place wasn't too fond of renting to non-WASPs.

How about the military just spends the ABSURD amount of money we give them to begin with more wisely? How much would it really cost to put up cheap wooden stalls between shower heads? $50? I mean, really. Is this your complaint? Really? If we didn't allow women in the military, we wouldn't have to have completely separate living and showering quarters for them, either. Guess we outta' boot those bitches out, too! This would be a very simple, easy way of getting around the problem. Would it require some minor spending? Sure. But honestly, we could MASSIVELY cut military spending by getting the out of these other countries to begin with. |

I understand what you are saying about being off base and on your own time. However, it seems you are only looking at it from the gay soldier's side and not from the straight soldier's side. I'm not gonna debate over the misuse of marriage. The fact is, I believe marriage is left for man and woman. Just like giving birth is left for woman. Its still a sacred institution......even if some people feel the need to poop all over it. The idea of a company firing someone over being gay....I dont know of a state that can do it. But lets assume there is one. And here I am an owner of a company in this state. I am servicing the needs of the public, where being gay is a fireable offense. Slappy, you are working for me and the people....my customers find out that you are gay whether it be b/c you announced it or not. Bad PR is bad PR. Should my entire business fail b/c of you? If it does and I have thousands of employees, should they all lose their jobs for you? Please dont think I am siding with this, as I am simply trying to offer another perspective. In today's society, being gay carries a negative connotation. Just like at a time the world saw being black as a negative, its gay today. But what should I as the business owner do? I am dependent on my customer base and I am bleeding money. I think you are right that most people who are gay are raised by a straight couple. But here is something I have always wondered.....when did the first gay person come around? I know that previous generations probably had gay people who were hiding it or confused or whatever. But who and when was the first person to go....I'm gay? Regardless, the idea that we become a product of our enviroment, really makes me question your idea of being gay being "hardwired". And the idea of a gay couple adopting a child. And I have NO solution to it or any idea how to sway to one side.
