Pretty decent card overall. I really enjoyed it. Pretty sad to see both Cro-Cop and B.J. call it a career in one night. Man, Diaz beat Penn up, BAD!! B.J.'s face was a mess. What a win for Diaz and now he gets his shot. Let's hope he doesn't blow his 2nd opportunity this time around...

Great fight... I know a lot of people don't like him, but how can you not love Nick Diaz fights? Mad props to BJ too though... he showed a lot of heart hanging in there - and even backing Diaz up again in the third. I loved GSP's reaction to Diaz calling him out afterwards (...Razor Ramon would be proud, lol). I still think GSP will beat Diaz, but it should be very exciting (and the build-up) - I think the UFC are doing the right thing putting GSP Vs Diaz straight away/at SuperBowl weekend... can you imagine the PPV buyrate if they did GSP Vs Diaz and Silva Vs Sonnen 2 on the SuperBowl show(!).
BJ's one of my all-time favourites - it's sad to see him call it a day (if he really has), but he knows best... his priorities seem to be changing - and if his heart's no longer in the game, then fair-do's. He is kind of in No Man's Land fight-wise - he shouldn't stay at WW and be a gate-keeper type fighter there, and he's lost twice to Edgar at LW - plus there are plenty of other top contenders there, so... if he's calling it a day, put him in the HOF asap.
CroCop looked good against Nelson - I'm glad he went out on his shield and wasn't KO'd... it was quite emotional afterwards when he was being interviewed by Joe Rogan. And it was a pretty disappointing debut for Hiok (I actually thought he lost) - he seems to have inherited the UFC "Japanese curse"...

My heart is broken for BJ Penn tonight, but Nick Diaz is a beast.

Condit gladly let Diaz take his place and will more than likely face the winner of GSP/Diaz now. Everyone giving Nick Diaz crap about calling GSP out, etc. It's called showmanship. Let the man do it. Now it's a bad guy vs. good guy. This is great for entertainment and especially PPV buys for UFC. They wanna draw a lot of money together and they know the only way they can do that is by heat. Everyone's hating and booing Diaz because of how he acted at the weigh-in to BJ Penn but after everything's done and over, They're FRIENDS. These guys respect each other but they know going into the fight they will hype it up and act like they hate each other. Here is a pic of Diaz and Penn after their epic fight.....

Man - after seeing that press-conference, I really don't know what to make of Diaz... he seems such a depressed/strange individual. I mean, he's one of the best fighters in the world, has just impressively beaten an ATG, and also been given the next world title shot (instead of the intended guy), yet all he seems to do is constantly moan and complain about things. Thousands of fighters would LOVE to be in his situation...

Nick Diaz is a very complicated man, that's all I can really say. He has this near-unshakeable "us versus the world" belief, and I think he honestly is pretty self-loathing as well. He holds himself to the absolute highest standard, and while it's led to some amazing fights and fantastic victories, it's also led to him doing some pretty bizarre and even stupid things because he's both mad at himself and mad at the world. In the end, Nick will be Nick and you can love him or hate him but he'll say whatever he feels like for however long you allow him to, and if he doesn't like you he'll tell you to off right to your face. I personally think Diaz is one of the best anti-hero MMA fighters of all time. And this is all coming from someone who used to absolutely loathe both Diaz brothers.

i havent watched the whole card yet, only the 3 fights shown on spike, and nick/bj... but man, nicks cardio and striking accuracy is outright absurd. and donny cerrone is an animal, he dismantled a legit contender in siver.

What an EXCITING night! I had the most fun I have ever had in a long time. Facebook prelims were uninteresting. The crowd didn't seem to like any of it, but it seemed to go by fast enough. I wanted to watch every fight, so when I got there, the ushers didn't think I sat where my ticket was. I had to call Frankie to come and actually take me to my seat, then he had to leave right after, lol. Good stuff. Spike prelims were obviously awesome. Palaszewski has some serious killer instinct after jumping on Griffin after he heart him. Well deserved KO of the night. Cerrone continues to impress. I think he's the most overlooked guys in the division. He's a very solid all-around fighter and he's a finisher. His height was a huge issue with Siver, as you can tell he was having trouble finding his range, but the head kick set it off for Cerrone. I'd like to see Donald fight someone like Nate Diaz soon. That will be a war. Hioki vs. Roop was actually a pretty okay fight to me. Even though a lot of people think Roop got robbed, I disagree. Hioki did great with his takedowns and dominance on the ground. He got mount easily, and transitioned flawlessly. The biggest thing Roop had was his kicks. I think if he mixed up his kicks with his punches more, he would have had a little more success. Obviously, I'm pretty heartbroken by Cro Cop's loss. When he hit that huge flurry on Nelson, I thought the end was near, but Nelson continued to show that he's tougher than he looks. I hope Mirko calls it a career and stops fighting. He was my hero for a long time and now I just don't want to see him fight anymore. Great career, great success and great fight memories are what I will think when I think of him. Mitrione vs. Kongo was a huge letdown. I figure Kongo would have used his stalling (like he's done in previous fights) if he had gotten punched a lot, and that's pretty much what happened. Meathead is still young in the sport and he still has a lot to learn, so this loss is probably good for him. Hopefully he gets with a good wrestling coach and jiu-jitsu coach to tighten up his ground game. Do I even have t say anything on Nick Diaz anymore? So many people on here were very convinced BJ would "pwn" him and pick Nick apart, and it ended up being the opposite. BJ is tough as hell, taking 116 punches to the face in round 2 and not dropping at all. I love BJ, but I just didn't see how he would win. NO ONE can work the pace that Diaz does. NO ONE. Why would there be people still dogging Nick now? His attitude is great for the sport, and he's a fantastic fighter. What's not to respect and love? You better believe I'll be there in February to see Nick fight Georges. It's gonna be nuts. Also, a lot of people probably won't even mention this, but there was some serious technical brilliance during the scramble with Diaz and Penn. Penn went to take him down and take Nick's back, but Nick did something really smart in flipping over and not letting Penn get the hooks and escaping. Lots of people favored BJ in the jiu-jitsu department, but Diaz showed some great technique here, even though most people won't pay much attention to it. If Penn got the hooks, it would have been closer to a finish.

Sure, Diaz looked amazing. No question. But that was against B.J. Penn. And I'm sorry, but B.J. Penn is no Georges St. Pierre. Nick Diaz won't come close to doing to St. Pierre what he did to Penn.
Penn chose to stand and throw with Diaz and obviously that was a HUGE mistake. Trust me, Georges will NOT make that mistake. He'll take Diaz down each and every time and pound on him.
I've got all the faith in the world on Georges in that fight. He'll win. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.
"NO ONE can work the pace Diaz does. NO ONE". I don't know about that James. It seemed to me B.J. looked as gassed last night as he was against Georges in their 2nd fight when his corner chose to stop the fight before the 4th round began.
I think Georges can work the pace Diaz does and I think Anderson Silva can too.
Georges seemed to get stronger against Penn in their 2nd fight when he got to his feet at the end of the 3rd and punched the fence and was more than willing to continue. But B.J. was gassed and his fighting will had been taken from him, just like it was last night.
Like I said, Diaz looked amazing last night. But that was against B.J. Penn, who Georges has already defeated twice over. Georges will win their fight. No doubt. Count on it.

This is why Diaz vs. GSP is the "DREAM MATCH" right now. Because everyone has reasons why GSP will win and everyone has reasons why Diaz will win. The only way to settle it is let them fight. So much variables, it's an endless argument. But its Diaz's chance at winning that is getting everything riled up. No one cares about Condit because everyone will predict him losing easily. This GSP vs. Diaz fight will be a great fight and the winners will be the fans.

Penn will forever be one of the GOATs. Regardless of what all the morons with the "lololol he gawt tooled!!11" say. Same as when Fedor went down, he went down as a GOAT. Regardless of what all the clowns over on Sherdog and any other brain-dead idiot out there says.

He did get tooled, I was just laughing at people who thought he would make Diaz look bad because he's from Strikeforce and not "UFC level". lol.

Wow. We're really going with the "lol I told you so" routine man? Ok then, let's talk about "Cro Cop's KO of the night" bonus he was suppose to get then...

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure James is being so unforgiving towards BJ in this situation.

I mean it's not exactly shocking. Everyone I watched the fight with(sister, bro-in-law, GF) were completely amazed and stunned by the end, but I was just like, "Meh, could have been a lot worse for Penn."
And I'm not taking a thing away from Diaz, not at all, but the whole "Haha I was right." shtick is the last thing I wanna hear after two of my favorite fighters of all time both retire in the same night, especially on these boards(which I consider to be miles ahead of other MMA discussion forums) and from one of the MMA boards most knowledgeable posters.
I'm much happier with Diaz/Pierre than I was with Pierre/Condit or would have been with Penn/Pierre III anyways, and Diaz is one of my favorites regardless and has been for a long time, go back and look through the old Strikeforce threads when Diaz was defending his strap, you'll find me a James arguing side by side that he's a top 3 WW against several doubters on this board, but I'm not gonna act like I forgot everything that Penn did for this sport just because he couldn't keep up with Diaz's pace.
Guy(Penn) was jumping weight classes and winning duel titles while Diaz was off pissing dirty in PRIDE because he refused to get off pot and grow up. Times change, people get old, they lose interest, etc.
Happened to Liddell, Wanderlei, Fedor, Cro Cop, Ortiz, etc. and I guess now it's catching up to Penn.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't really seen anyone talk about Diaz not being UFC level on these boards. In fact, I saw many pick him to win if anything on here. So I'm not quite sure what James' talking about unless he was referring to another message board.
