Here is a real question. Why was jakks able to have such a successful legends line and mattel not so much ? Would people support a basics legends line ? When does mattels contract run out ? Why did it fail? That topic has been hashed out many times, but I do believe that things would have turned around if Mattel had stuck with the line a little longer. I'd love a basic legends line or two packs. But at this point that ship has probably sailed, and Mattel seems to be taking LESS input from collectors rather than more these days. At this point I'd take anything to get more legends into the line. The current formula clearly isn't working. The current deal is set to expire in 2020, but supposedly they signed a 5 year extension that hasn't been announced. So somewhere between 2020 and 2025. Either way something should be announced soon-ish.

I'm going to ignore your "not counting current guys" thing and say that Mattel has made a ton of people Jakks didn't make. The whole of the line is made up of more than just classic superstars.
These silly Mattel vs. Jakks threads do nobody any good. There are pluses and minuses to both.

Jakks wasn't able to make some guys because WWE wouldn't sign off on some guys (Macho Man). And Steamboat was going through a nasty divorce and he didn't want to give some money to his ex wife.

I heard his ex-wife actually owned the name Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and that was the reason he was almost never mentioned on TV at the time and Jakks couldnt make a figure of him

The biggest thing the Mattel line has going for them is the quality and scope of the names included. It really is the closest we'll probably ever come to a "definitive" wrestling figure line.
We now have one single line that includes Hogan, Savage, AJ Styles, Sting, Cody, Magnum TA, Kerry Von Erich, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Madusa, Kenta/Itami, Miss Elizabeth, Backlund, Sammartino, Dusty, Steen/Owens, etc.
When you think of some of the combinations we've gotten in this one line, it's absolutely mind boggling. I would have never guessed in the Jakks days that there would even be a one-in-a-million possibility to have figures of Samoa Joe, Ricky Steamboat, and an official "Slim Jim" Macho Man in the same scale and style.

A better current roster. Lots of duds happened to be around when Jakks had the licence.
More character specific accessories. I don't miss getting constant cookie sheets and metal pipes. Or the more wacky stuff like axes, shovels or fire extinguishers. That stuff is good for displays now and then but they were so common. I also hated getting hats, crowns or other such things only to have them not even fit who they came with.
More importantly though, a much higher quality. Jakks did have better heads and more accurate facial likenesses, imo, but I'd trade that for the higher overall quality any day.

A sh*tload ... but that doesn't excuse their blatant laziness in order to rush something out to the shelves for a profit ... but hey, they're in the business of making money.
Honestly, Jakks was damn good for their time, but it's really unfair to compare the two.
Jakks & Mattel are totally different companies budget wise and the company that they do these toys for (WWE) had different contracts at the time. Also, Jakks couldn't contact guys that WWE wasn't willing to work with ... same with Mattel, so it's really not a fact of Jakks didn't want to make them or Mattel doesn't want to make them ... it's ultimately up to WWE.
Mattel also has the advantage as far as technology goes, so for what Jakks was able to produce and the amount of guys that they signed and released figures of .. I applaud them for that. Mattel, kinda has it easier and then again they kinda don't. Bill was able to get Macho Man, which was a HUGE achievement .. but then again Jakks just flat out couldn't even negotiate with him due to beef with the WWE, so that goes back to my point of different times and different opportunities.
I'm not sure why Jakks could never secure Ricky Steamboat though, but that's the one that has always made me scratch my head and try to figure out just why that never happened, or if it was attempted how come it fell through ?
Overall, Jakks put out far more names (Because they could contract them individually) but Mattel has put out a MUCH better likeness of a product.
Both have their strong points and their flaws, but nothing will ever top Jakks Classic Superstar line MOC ... Mattel's Legends Line is right up there with the best looking MOC series of all times as well.

It looks more like his Hasbro Was Dino Bravo legit confirmed for the Jakks Classic Superstars line ? I think I've seen a list somewhere that had up until CS 31-32 perhaps and a bunch of placeholders, but I can't ever recall seeing Dino Bravo on there. Hell, Mattel's Dino Bravo would be like .. "First Time In The Line" #TrueScanTechnology ... Kills me when they put that on legends that have passed away, like for example ... Sensational Sherri or Dusty Rhodes

Jakks did an excellent job in a lot of ways with the RA line, but Mattel has done a fairly solid job with its line as well.
My biggest issues are the lack of lesser known legends, and how difficult it is to keep up with picking up all the new characters. Liv Morgan, Pat Patterson, Maryse, and Andrade all require a different store, while characters like Roderick Strong, Wendi Richter, and Gorilla Monsoon might not ever see the light of day at all.
I'd also say Jeremy was a lot more forthcoming with information, whereas Bill will often either leave us in the dark, or isn't given basic information about the lines he works on.
Both of those things are likely attributed to the size of the company, but they're still glaring detriments to this line.
