I really liked this feud. This was definitely Virgil's best year in the business. The pop he got at the Royal Rumble in 1991 was great. Piper on the Mic that night and for Summer Slam 1991 really helped this feud. I wish we could have gotten more from DiBiase/Piper, that would have been fun to see. Adding Sherri into the mix was great. Virgil winning at Summer Slam was a great moment too. I do feel like the moment that DiBiase wins the belt back should have been bigger. If they could have stretched it out to the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, that would have been great. Have DiBiase pay Repo Man to get his belt back, when he fails, DiBiase gets Virgil in another match to win it back, with the help of Sherri and Repo.

Forgotten gem of an interview prior to WM VII I wonder if Flair hadn't come to the WWF if we would have gotten a Piper/DiBiase feud at the end of 1991?

I know I wouldve been all for it.Both guys could talk so the interactions like this one here wouldve been great. Me too. I think it would have been great. Had Flair not entered the picture after SSL91, I could see DiBiase trying to get Repo Man to get his belt back from Virgil while DiBiase would start a feud with Piper. After the feud ran its course, and Repo failed to get his belt back for him, I could see Virgil and DiBiase facing each other again for the title at RR92 (a year after Virgi's turn) or WrestleMania 8 with DiBiase winning his title back. Not sure what that does for the tag team title picture in 1992. I guess if the Virgil/DiBiase rematch was at RR92, then Money Inc. could still step in and win the tag team titles from LOD in February, and face the Natural Disasters at WM8.

Hulk Hogan vs Andre The GiantThese two wrestling icons have history dating back to the early 80s with a big clash happening at Shea Stadium but the infamous feud they would have together would begin in early 1987.It all began on an edition of Piper's Pit when both parties would receive trophies with Hogan getting the big one(shocking!) with Andre clearly not looking happy at all. This would all lead to February on the same segment when Andre would finally reveal his intentions along with his new manger. One of the best heel turns of all time. The ripping of the shirt is the icing on the cake here Hogan the following week would accept the big challenge and with that the match would bet set for the Silverdome at WM III.The build to this was fantastic with the fans getting a tease later that month on SNME in a big battle royal. Loved the fact Andre eliminated Hogan here. The match itself at Mania was not a masterpiece but that wasnt the point here. It was all about the build and spectacle and in that regard it delivered in spades. No doubt in my mind the biggest match in Mania history here. Hogan would pick up the win here but this wouldnt be the end by a long shot.It would take however 8 months before they would interact again as at the first SSeries it would be Team Hogan against Team Andre.Great stuff keeping them apart for that long.In the end Andre would be the sole survivor by last eliminating Bam Bam Bigelow who gave one hell of an effort in the end of this match. Hogan woulnt let Andre have his moment post match though with him coming out to clear from the ring. Following this, new superstar in the Federation Ted Dibiase would eye up the WWF Title in hopes of purchasing it but Hogan would say HELL NO!! to that deal with would result in the money man getting the services of Andre to get it for him.At the first Rumble that January the contract signing would take place with the heels getting the better of the champ when Andre would attack with Hogan with him pushing the table on him.At the Main Event that February the two would collide in what was the most viewed match in company history at 33 million with a 15.2 rating. Vince wishes he could get these numbers again thats for sure. The end result would be Andre getting the win after Earl Hebner(his introduction here) counted the 3 despite Hogan getting the shoulder up.''How much did he spend on the plastic surgery??!! Andre right after would forfeit the belt to DiBiase but Jack Tunney would over rule this stating it was illegal to do that with the WWF Title then being vacant with the new champ being crowned at WM IV in the tournament. It was there in which these two would collide again with the end result being a double DQ for using achairt even though Hogan used it first. He shouldve been DQed damnit!Randy Savage would win it all at the end which would set in motion the Powers vs Bucks feud for the Summer(Already covered here in the CFD)Both Hogan and Andre would have one more clash in Milwaukee that Summer in a cage match with Hogan picking up the W. This match was included on the Wrestlefest 88 tape. Overall...No doubt the biggest feud in the history books here.An awesome heel turn along with the build to Mania III man make this thing special. And..... DISCUSS!!

Great feud. Probably the apex of the Hulkamania era. Heel Andre was the perfect foil to Hulk Hogan at that time. It's amazing that they were able to stretch this out over the course of a year and a half, and they only met on television in a match 5 times in that stretch (nowadays, that is how often two people feuding would face each other from one PPV to the next). But The Brain, they Nielsen Rating was 15.2, the actual viewing audience was 33 million - still to this day the largest viewing audience to watch a professional wrestling show (that is absolutely amazing). And, even though the matches were nothing to write home about, it is amazing they were as good as they were considering Andre's condition at this time. This had to be Hogan's best run ever, he went from feuding with Piper to Orndorff to Andre to Savage, setting all kinds of records.

But yeah amazing indeed.I said it many times in the past here this era was the best time to be a fan.

The slam heard around the world!
For all the people who hail Vince a genius, the booking and presentation of this feud certainly backs up their point of view. I got in to the WWF in the early 90’s so became aware of this feud retrospectively. Even though they’d faced each other previously and Andre had been slammed several times by many wrestlers (including Hogan), the hype for the WMIII match was booking at its very finest. Bigger than the Rolling Stones indeed.
The Pipers pit segment was amazing too. The way Andre casually rips the t-shirt and crucifix off of Hogan was fantastic. So effortless.
And the plastic surgery line always cracks me up.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the channel that broadcast Andre winning the title wasn’t available to every home, making the 33million viewers even more impressive.
