why are you assuming that the same people who defended Gunn are going after Sammy? that’s a strange take I don't think it's strange at all. Not long ago, Kevin Hart was also shamed out of hosting the oscars as well for jokes he made years earlier in his standup routine. They're unrelated. Content may be similar, but it's a really big reach to include him and say that some people are dragging Sammy through the mud but ok with Gunn. I just don't want this thread locked because of it. Don't drag it out, my guy.

Sammy was 22 when he said that. it was a really stupid thing to say, beyond stupid on a platform aired throughout the internet, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water now if he said that while employed, or fails to properly apologize for it, then it’s a different story If you’re 22 years old and think making a joke about r*pe is acceptable in any form, you’re parents and the education system severely failed you, and I would expect your morals to be downright unacceptable. There’s no defending what he said, it was INCREDIBLY stupid of him to say, regardless if he was employed or not. Just because you’re employed with a major promotion doesn’t give you immunity from having to answer for your outright IDIOTIC statements. At first I was glad to see him apologize publicly, but others have already caught him liking a tweet from someone else claiming “Sammy was just joking, why is everyone so soft now a days” (I’m paraphrasing, but this was part of the tweet). So that leads me to think this, are you really sorry Sammy? Or are you saying your sorry publicly to try to mediate things with your higher ups, out of fear of losing you job. Not disagreeing or agreeing but what about comedians or musicians with dry/dark senses of humor or combat arms in the military that have been desensitized and lightly joke about it amongst other things you may believe to be taboo? What about people who laugh at the jokes? Just wondering if it's the same across the board. On the actual subject of Sammy, I really don't understand how his comments are being defended as a joke to begin with when they weren't said in a joking manner and weren't funny in any aspect. No punchline, no set-up, nothing. I have a pretty dry and dark sense of humor seeing a lot of rough stuff in life and I believe He was just being an 🍑🤡 There's no way you can interpret "I want to go there and r*pe her" as a joke and if you are, then you have a problem disassociating the character you like and see on TV from the real person that he is. It was stupid and he's no better for saying it.. and of course like most ppl at that age, for recording it too. I don't think he should lose his job over it but if he gets shoved around in a locker room or roughed up at a live event by talent bigger than him then that's karma. Oh 🐳 EDIT: I see him and Sasha have squashed it. All is right in the world again. Namaste.

I don't think it's unrelated at all because in 2020 there's a lot of talk about what we can and can't say, what's acceptable, people's politics, what's on social media, etc. People getting their careers ruined for things they might've said or people being shunned and shamed for quotes or things in the past or social media. To me it's all tangentially related.

Oh 🐳 it was distasteful, but it was his way of jokingly saying ‘I thought Sasha was really attractive’ in a shitty, frat boy, immature, dumb way. I mean, cartoons joke about going after women aggressively. Pepe Le Pew would be so damn demonized by today’s standards.

Pepe Le Pew was a Mack lol but thinking of how many frat boys get away with it to begin with doesn't make his case any better. At least he appears to have changed for the better and they hashed it out peacefully. All that matters. EDIT: I totally get what you mean btw. Could you imagine Aerosmith coming out with Dude Looks Like A Lady in 2020? It would be insane.

It was his very offensive, very idiotic way of saying he finds her extremely attractive, he has apologised, she has accepted. Not defending him but some groups of people do talk like this, been around people who say stuff like this and they say it without even thinking it's bad, it's the norm for some.
I enjoy Sammy's work, this looks bad for him but it really isn't worth ruining his career over, it was a crude and offensive piece of language, hopefully he has grown up and doesn't speak like this about women anymore.

Not really a fan of punishing someone for something they said five years ago when they were 22 on a podcast in what I assume was said as a joke, regardless of whether it was funny or not.
Admittedly I haven't read the transcript or listened to the podcast and I'm just going off the gist of it.

Good move by AEW, definitely warranted at the very least.

What Sammy said is disgusting. But it is also very similar to regular comments posted on here (Mainly in the main WWE board) regarding women, comments that have been going on for years.

AEW can be a little too woke for my tastes, but this is a great move.

Glad to see AEW take action here. Hopefully this sets as an example for others going forward to think before speaking. Glad he didn’t lose his job as I never was calling for that, but there need to be some sort of action taken from the higher ups.

Ric Flair is an alleged sexual assaulter. Stone Cold Steve Austin is a wife beater. The industry still worships them and allows them to get work and welcome them with open arms.

Ric Flair is an alleged sexual assaulter. Stone Cold Steve Austin is a wife beater. The industry still worships them and allows them to get work and welcome them with open arms. With all due respect, there is still a large part of the wrestling fanbase that worships Chris Benoit.. Which pretty much says everything you need to know about the majority of wrestling fans. I hate looking down on fellow fans, and I don't see myself better than anyone by any stretch as I'm far from perfect, but wrestling fans generally embarrass me.

I'll let someone more familiar with posting Tweets handle that if they so choose, but a recent one where Sammy comments on vanishing from TV because of vidya games did not age well...

This movement thing is taking it too far IMO. People are going to try to dig up anything and everything someone has said in the past. Reminds me of when someone is drafted in the NFL and people pull up past tweets like “look what he said when he was 16!!” Speaking out on legitimate, or alleged legitimate, sexual/physical/mental abuse shouldn’t turn into calling out people for bad jokes.
