Mattel pays WWE millions of dollars a year for the license to use WWE’s property. Mattel then makes action figures to sell to the public to make money. If Mattel continues to make the same legends action figures over and over because WWE will only sign 20 guys to legends deals then collectors are going to quit buying. We have already had 5 X-PAC elites and are fixing to have our 6th. Mattel 100% should bring this issue up to WWE It’s wwe’s IP WWE drives the product WWE want kids who watch the product now to buy the figures, watch the TV shows and get the network / peacock. That drives live merch and all other revenue streams Legends figures are a niche of a niche of a niche of a niche. They are a small component of wrestling figures, which are a small component of action figures, with are a component of the larger toy market battling against construction toys, role play toys, video game / electronic toys I really don’t think that the collectors are a niche part of WWE’s Mattel landscape. The legends line has been very successful and the only UE figures that are going for crazy money on secondary markets are classic figures. The new gen arena campaign gave Mattel over 2 million dollars in sales. They are also bringing back retros. All I’m saying is Mattel definitely should have brought this up when negotiating a new contract. WWE wants to keep Mattel happy as well because they want Mattel to keep sending them checks.

It wouldn't matter to me who got the license because I wouldn't have to necessarily start over considering I only buy one of each person for the most part. I'm happy with the job Mattel is doing overall but if it was a different company I might be able to get a new version of something I missed out on like DM Bret.

Both Bill and AFA have always said they push to get new names, because its better for Mattel and the brand to have a consistent flow of new characters. But it often doesnt work how they want. But they try none-the-less. And in another topic it was just discussed how its probably accurate that the newer wrestlers outsell the legends in droves, just because theres far fewer kids wanting figures of roman reigns than wanting figures of big John Studd. Im stoked that the legends line appears to be doing well currently, and hopefully doesnt fall apart like last time, but we are also in a collector peak market right now too. Only time will tell, but generally I agree with you. It was hopefully brought up in the negotiation aspect, as WWE has an ever shrinking roster, and are cutting expenses left and right... theres just far fewer names currently than before.

Mattel will have very little “push” it’s not how licensor agreements work Mattel pays WWE millions of dollars a year for the license to use WWE’s property. People bitch and bitch over the same old legends being made yet they continue to be bought up when released and most of them at least double in value on the secondary market shortly after. Maybe you fail to realize that X-Pac wore more than 5-6 attires. They will make who they can as well as different attires like they’ve been doing. It makes them money.

That's great news, Mattel make fantastic figures and as a casual fan of their product I can admit they probably make the best in history. I'm happy for you guys that are hardcore collectors of the line, the thought of starting over would scare the hell out of me.

Now we know part of why there was silence.

I was actually curious if Mattel even wanted to continue with the deal. The license is definitely not as valuable now as it was 11 years ago. Viewership and talent roster is way down from what it was then.

Even if today’s collectors stop buying the Legends and or Elites because they already have multiples of a specific wrestler Mattel & the WWE knows every day there will be new collectors and kids buying their first one of that wrestler.

SMH at people finding a way to complain about this. I’m not complaining about Mattel getting a new contract. I’m just bringing up the fact that their is definitely a lack of new legends figures. I think we can all agree that we wish WWE would sign more guys so we can get more figures. Mattel would make badass elites of Older characters.

I would love to see new legends, it’s literally all I get myself. However it is a very niche part of the line. Also wwe have pretty much zero need to keep mattel happy. It’s all on the toy company to keep the licensee happy. Sadly wwe are very hands on and want to control the narrative. It wasn’t too long ago ‘jada metals’ produced a line of wwe collectibles. They showed off: AJ, Seth, HHH, Roman, sami zayn, Charlotte, Paige, Sasha, Cena, Kevin Owens, brock, warrior, piper and sting. All but the last 3 were current at the time. All but the last 3 got released. Jada were asked why and replied wwe wanted to push current talent. The revenue streams for legends is much reduced, it’s “bonus” cash for the stockholders Another example, the head of masters of the universe classics when Mattel did them has said the line would t have worked at retail, it was too niche hence why it was online. The original wwe legends line was online. A lot of the legends now are online or exclusives to stores, comic cons etc. We are not the mass market.

Are you talking about that Spector Creative channel on Youtube? He has a lot of great insight on the toy industry. For toylines to get shelf space and sell at mass retail, it needs TV or a movie to promote it and MOTU doesnt really have that.

I think a lot of people are overthinking things here.
Action figures are booming, Mattel is making money, WWE is making money. /story
Very happy to see the partnership continue!

Good news. All about consistency.

Now that we are 10 years in to the line with even further to go maybe it's time to rerelease some figures like DM Hogan and Bret...

Good news. Mattel has a lot more ground to cover. I wished it included 3rd party deals so Mattel could directly deal with talent, but I think that’s a pipe dream. I’m really only collecting UE at this point, so make me happy that line will continue at least in the near future.

Indeed I am The same logic can apply to legends - while wwe technically have a tv show it doesn’t show the legends on a week to week basis

We have WM 2000 X-Pac, 2002 nWo X-Pac, WCW nWo Syxx, and 123 Kid. Those are 2 X-Pacs with a 3rd coming up. We have 4 figures of Sean Waltmsn gimmicks, but they’re all different gimmicks. The only one that you could argue is rehash is the upcoming Legends X-Pac, but I argue it’s different because the WM 2000 X-Pac is the evil McMahon-Helmsley Era DX and the upcoming one is the babyface DX.

Good. I don’t want to go through another 10 years to get to the point where I am now in my collection. The gaps in Mattel are bad enough, but the gaps in any other company will be significantly worse because there’s 10 years of people you will never get.
