It's funny we disliked pretty much the same things about it but you thought it was way better than I did. I don't want to say I had my mind made up within the very start, but they kind of forced me into it.
The polished and over-produced way that it was made just completely destroys any believability they had, and they definitely had a platform here to kind of turn the genre on its head a little bit, with some huge missed opportunities. I also went insane over the constant camera cuts which just add to the lack of reality. I found myself sitting and thinking well, people would definitely have these high quality cameras in this day and age, but the editing was just terrible, constantly taking away from getting to know any of these (bad) actors and only concerned with setting up for the final scene.
And I didn't think anything positive about those last 20 minutes. I'm glad they're trying to build out the mythology for themselves or whatever, but what the original does so well is just tell a ghost story that seems like it could have happened down the street. This just turned the whole thing into a stalking down by a giant monster or whatever that thing was, and ruined the imagination/relatability of the entire concept.
I don't know if any of you guys have seen As Above/So Below, but I felt like this was essentially the same movie as that, but that movie did it better (not that THAT movie was any good, really, but better than this).
I blame Paranormal Activity, YouTube & James Wan for my experience last night.

Hopefully none of you have seen this yet. Ultimately you will make your own decision but consider this post the bullet I took for you (especially if you love the '99 one) and avoid this at all costs.

We could sit here all day and show screenshots of people behind CGI walls and people next to elaborate miniatures with examples from all 7 movies...that's also a scene of Padme riding in a space ship being transported. I guess what I don't understand is, did your enjoyment of those three movies really suffer that much because of the way this scene or a scene like this in particular was constructed? I don't know if I've ever sat in a Star Wars movie and been concerned about whether or not the car or whatever that was being driven was real? If anything I've always just kind of accepted the backdrops and been concerned with what people are saying without really thinking twice about it.
I'm 30 and these movies were released while I was in my early-late teens, which is where one would think I would be most resistant in terms of age and thinking things like this are dumb, but maybe you're right? Not sure if you're older than me or not. I watch clips of the Marvel movies these days and everyone seems to love those and I think the 'subtlety' of that CGI pales in comparison to the way Star Wars blends (all 7 as far as I'm concerned).
Also, Portman is the understated and never mentioned worst part about the prequels. At least Hayden gave it his efforts and despite the fact that people hate that Darth Vader is a whiny teenager, too bad. She phones in everything and anything she's doing in all of those movies and it's as clear as day she doesn't want to be there. Leia is the same way in Return of the Jedi. She is far and away more damaging to that whole world than Jar Jar Binks could ever be.
Anyways, just thoughts!

As someone who hates the prequels, I have been watching the Clone Wars cartoon (on season 3 now) and it's kind of been lessening my hate of all things prequels. The main reason I started watching it was to get caught up to Rebels for the debut of Thrawn. But so far the Clone Wars cartoon is way better than the prequel movies. I get why some younger people don't have a problem with the prequels. And I get that some of us older folk might have been stuck in the past when it comes to the original trilogy. But in terms of feel of the universe, it was way different, and while flawed, I think that is what Episode VII got right again if nothing else. They used a lot more practical effects in episode VII. You watch the behind the scenes of the prequels and almost everything is done with CGI and I think ultimately that is why some of the performances were so bad. That and nobody had the balls to tell Lucas that things were off. Again...I'm not finding these behind the scenes where practical effects weren't at all used. I get that some people enjoy the blend better but the miniatures used, the sets, definitely the makeup...the practical effects are all there. And it's 100x more imaginative than Episode VII which gave us Tatooine, Hoth and Yavin over again but called them something 'different'. That is the first time I've ever watched something Star Wars and felt like I was on Earth, of all places. I never liked James Cameron, mostly because he's pretentious with his 'forward thinking' and Avatar sucked, but he won me back over when he called out Episode VII for exactly what it was, a re-tread. I also love how suddenly everyone turned anti-Cameron in defense of Episode VII after he spoke out. deadline.com/2016/06/james-cameron-star-wars-force-awakens-criticism-1201781204/I just don't think I'll ever get it. I have legitimately enjoyed EVERYTHING Star Wars up to this point...even Episode VII. Thankfully I am invested in the characters, so I am on board to see what happens...but it's by far the least inspired of all 7 movies. Whoever deserves the blame for that, I don't know. But as far as holding it up against the prequels in terms of effects, I would take a look at this article and the accompanying reddit thread. People can whine about the acting all they want, but really I don't see the argument here after having a look at this: makezine.com/2015/10/07/the-surprising-practical-effects-of-the-star-wars-prequels/

oOoOOo good call on stir fry. I've never really thought to even go for that. I went back to ground turkey this week, didn't pull the trigger on those expensive places. That's a great idea, though. I could definitely bounce between that and turkey. I think I just need to suck it up and be ready to cook, that's all. Ugh, but the thought of it, haha

Turkey taco meat is essentially what I live off of already. Never thrown eggs into it, though...I like eggs but usually just for breakfast or getting them down Rocky style. I also do a protein/creatine shake a day. I think I just don't even want to spend the time cooking that stuff anymore haha. But it's tough, obviously. If I end up with a 'late' Sunday I'm doing this stuff until 10 pm, plus I slow cook chicken to eat for lunch during the week and usually just put that on over night. That also takes forever and then will screw me up in the morning as I'm cleaning up/dealing with it.
Life, man, life!

Interesting, never thought about looking somewhere local. Can't imagine I'm going to find anything cheaper than online in Boston, but I could be wrong. How many calories you take in a day?

So I've been thinking for a while now about how I'd love to get the 4-6 hours of my life that meal prepping takes back. I've checked out a few different pre-made, high protein low-fat meal services and they all seem expensive which I guess is to be expected. I have a base calorie intake of 2000 per day and Usually hit about 2250 to 2500 (although I should probably be up around 3000). The calories listed for most of these seem awfully low for how much they're going to cost.
10 'double protein' meals from one place is decent at 100 bucks, but leaves me with possible difficulty in eating breakfast (maybe no problem, I eat oatmeal and yogurt and could throw in some eggs every day and feel like I'm not breaking the bank, plus I pepper my diet with fruit and bars/shakes) and the worry that I am going to be, quite frankly, f*cking starving all the time. My natural metabolism is absurdly high. I'm not expecting to be absolutely shredded but I workout pretty regularly to be in halfway decent ring shape and am trying to take it to the next level. I feel like this could help.
This also leaves the weekends mostly up for grabs though which is another difficulty I've always dealt with.
Anyone have any experience with this/know low cost ways of keeping it going?

For those with issues regarding leather colour. . . . WHY!!?? It makes it more unique and it isn't the first instance. The old WWF winged eagle had blue and yellow straps once. Everyone loved the white Ic Cody had. So why oppose red for raw?? Wwe is now a business, logo is key. Gone are the days of designed belts, it's all about promotion. No I don't like the big W for either 4 men's/women's championships. But I love the side plates, here's why. Name plates were never seen unless on a close up or in pics. And now each superstar to capture the gold has their recognised logo either side of the wwe logo. And THAT is a VERY good merchandising opportunity and brand awareness. The belt REPRESENTS the accomplishment and is now a tool to PROMOTE the brand's of wwe and it's champion Whoever in this thread said it looks like a fruit rollup is right, end of story. The WWE has always been a business? I don't understand what point you're making there, but you're right, they're constantly trying to advertise themselves as if they actually have competition on their scale somewhere. Oh, wait. This title design fiasco is a clear cut attempt at trying to take 'cues' from UFC...the problem is the cues they are taking are the wrong ones. This is one case where the way the belts are designed aren't unique in any way, shape or form. If you think of our peak era, you can distinctively remember the difference between ALL the titles in WWF (European, Intercontinental, Hardcore, Tag Team and World) and even in WCW (United States, Hardcore, Tag Team, World). Hell, even the light heavyweight titles had distinction. Why? Because they ALL LOOKED DIFFERENT. The plastic-y designs of WWE championships over the past decade are almost unbearable, starting with the US Championship, but at least we were able to swallow it back then because it was rooted in tradition. You can't start a new tradition when you're trying so hard to get people to care in the first place about the ones that are going by. It makes everything less and less unique and exciting, especially with the horrible name. But maybe I'm old and out of touch in a world where almost every up-and-coming favorite wears an identical jacket/duster to the ring. ![???](http://www.wrestlingfigs.com/images/huh.gif)

I will never watch anything related to this title ever, I don't care if Christian comes back and pins John Cena and Vince himself at once to win it, I don't care what it represents and who it's supposed to be reminiscent of. It's uninspired, self-absorbed nonsense at its' absolute worst.

How does this thread even exist already? One fight. Scary fight for him, but one fight.
Nothing about this dude over the past two years has indicated he would ever wrestle again, much less for WWE. (other than him saying he would wrestle under a mask or something, he's repeatedly said it's behind him.) As stubborn as a human being as he seems to be, I don't know him personally, why would everyone want him so badly to run back to a place that treated him so poorly? The amount of smack spoken about CM Punk after just speaking the truth about the nightmarish brand he worked for is baffling to me sometimes. People can't be that blindly in support of WWE?
That said, I think he comes back at the Rumble.
(For the record I was being facetious about the rumble. I think/hope he comes back never)

Just finished it last night. I was honestly disappointed with the show, with EVERYONE praising the crap out of it, thought it must be good, haven't seen that much fanfare since Breaking Bad And tbh, it's alright, nothing amazing, some unlikable characters, I felt Eleven was the strongest part of the show but her flashbacks were so generic, I felt the monster also left a lot to be desired. With Season 2 it'll depend if there's a new cast or not, for me to keep watching I'm with you on this. I watched episode 1 and kinda got a good feel of the show, it was fun to watch but nothing I wanted to continue watching.. For me it relied entirely too much on inspiration from the 80s.. It was almost a rip off of 80's sci fi at times.. There's nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from other forms of art.. But when your entire product is taking beats from other well known and popular products, there is an issue. I am so glad I am not the only one that felt this way. I definitely enjoyed it but it's SO on the nose sometimes and then just nothing new at others...it's like the ultimate fan service. The X-Men line in the first episode and then using the Falcon toy both were borderline cringeworthy. It's clear how much care is put into it though and I think the kids get better as it goes on so I enjoyed it but the life changing way that people are speaking about it is just so strange to me. STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED I SUPPOSE!
